Advantages Advantages Comfortable. Weatherproof. Warm. Iconic. Durable. Mine are TARTAN!!!

Disadvantages Disadvantages None whatsoever - but the tartan ones are hard to track down currently.

I rack up a fair number of miles each week, walking to and from the school with the girls, as well as to the local shops, parks, supermarket and Post Office with Liam in his pushchair. During the summer months I tend to wear trainers or walking sandals but as the autumn months started to approach, I felt needed something a bit sturdier and warmer. Now I have a bit of a tartan fetish. I think I may have been a bit of a repressed punk in my early years (I desperately wanted a pair of those tartan trousers with all the zips, but my Mum said no) or it might be just because I am exiled Highlander ... more

    Advantages Advantages Durable, practical, comfortable

Disadvantages Disadvantages Carry a lot of symbolism so be prepared for comments

You may not believe this, but I am not a shoe person. I'm a woman in her 20s with a little toddler and a lovely fella, but I just don't 'get' shoes. Bags I can understand; different types for different occasions are certainly handy items to have in the wardrobe. But shoes just take up space unnecessarily in my book, and usually style trumps practicality. For this reason I own only a few items of footwear- wellingtons for gardening when it's muddy, and a pair of slippers that I wear indoors. One pair are Tevas, and the other are Dr. Marten Victorian Flowers 1460 W boots. Both pairs are ... more

Advantages Advantages fashionable, variety of styles and colours

Disadvantages Disadvantages painfully painful at first

Doc martens, more commonly known as DM's used to be very popular amongst the punks and still are today along with other sub cultures such as emo's, goths and whatever else you want to call them. Usually paired with tartan trousers and outrageous hair styles and colours these days you can see them on the average person teamed up with today's main stream fashion. DM's come in lots of styles such as shoes, ankle calf and knee boots and also in heeled boots too,I have to say these are not the cheapest of shoes these days as the boots range between £70 - £130 depending what style you get. I finally ... more

Advantages Advantages Comfy, keep feet warm, versatile, fashionable, very durable, high quality

Disadvantages Disadvantages Need breaking in unless you buy them secondhand, heavy

I've had my pair of doc martens for around five years now and I don't think I'll ever get rid of them! I went through a stage of wearing them pretty much everyday and then I just lost interest and moved onto uggs and ballet flats but in the past year or so ever since Vintage fashion started to become more popular I've been wearing them more often. Doc martens are a very well known and iconic brand of boots and they've been around for ages. They're fashionable but they're also incredibly durable and they can be worn as work boots as well as casual boots. I've got the classic 8 eye boots which ... more

My Dad was a firefighter before her retired and as such he had to wear the Dr Marten shoes for work, I had always said that although I didn't like the shoes I loved the boots. All I ever hit was a brick wall of have you seen how expensive they are and even you will ruin them. One day coming home from school, I was in secondary at this point my Dad had a surprise for me, one of the lads had had a pair of spare shoes in his locker and had never used them, my Dad managed to pull a few strings and got these exchanged for a pair of boots for me. I was extastic to say the least. The boots I got were ... more
