I have been playing RPG's now for many years including all the Final Fantasy Games. This RPG game is simple in that you don't 200+ characters & no complex upgrade system for levelling up. Just nice and easy to follow upgrades.
The new features it brings to the game are there like the alchemy pot which lets you make your own items or the Monster Arena where you can fight with your own team of monsters but these are introduced slowly into the game.
The story is you are an armed guard when Dholmagus attack the King & casts an evil curse on the King & her Daughter. Your Journey is basically to track down Dholmagus & remove the curse. Nice & simple you think but along the way you come across so many quests & missions.
The graphics are very good it's like a SNES game but made for the PS2 with all it's power, when you first step onto the world map you see the lush green enviroments. You also have a day/night effect in this game which adds another element of gameplay. Because the enemies are tougher in the night.
This is what I call an old school rpg but a very enjoyable RPG & I would reccommend this to all RPG gamers.
But above all this is an ideal game for newcomers who want to play an adventure RPG
