My first impressions, on watching an episode of Dragonball Z were: "Oh no, not another young childs fighting cartoon." But then that is exactly the false impression that most immediate viewers would probably get. Of course Dragonball Z is aimed at kids and it is about fighting. But DBZ has its very own unique and exciting charm. Maybe it's the long-running and involved plots and story-lines. Or maybe it's just the unique concepts and exciting action scenes, but whatever it is, I found myself very absorbed and I've now managed to watch all the sagas and episodes. Dragonball Z is broken down into different sagas, each one usually featuring a different enemy or set of enemies that the main characters must defend the earth against. The animation is superb and despite a slight but nagging lack of movement from the characters, the drawings are a real credit to the animators. One aspect of DBZ, which I'm sure appeals to a lot of people but has never really won me over is the humour. Why characters suddenely leap over and stand on their heads when something surprising occurs is beyond me. To be fair, most of the comical aspects do make me laugh, but it always seems in conflict with the serious underlying plots and therefore always seemed to spoil it slightly. I think that from the Saiyen Saga to the Frieza Saga is the best part of DBZ. The structuring was excellent and was so well done, that my eagerness to see the final battles with Frieza had me rumaging through TV guides for ages to make sure I never missed an installment. From then onwards, it seemed to lose a bit of seriousness and had a few more corny bits, aswell as a few pointless boring bits (like when Krilling and Gohan go underwater to find a pearl for Marron). I'm sure that the different aspects of DBZ appeal to different people but one thing I will say is that you do have to see it for yourself. It's certainly unlike anything else I've ever seen and to this day, I'll still be very excited to watch Goku battle Cell.

I've been watching this since I was ...probably 10. Most of the ones I watched were Japanese with English subtitles and uncensored so I didn't bother with the English ones. Also thought the jokes were funnier.

Thanks for the op. As a teacher I see kids really enjoying talking and playing from this show.

The reason this didnt get is VH is because a) I'm lucky enought to know the progamme, but if I didnt I would probably still have no idea what you are talking about! and b) All the paragraphs bunched together made it reallt difficult to read.
Advantages: you have to be able to ignore some fairly large plot holes Disadvantages: its been repeating for some weeks now and only come on for 30 mins a day
