A Beautiful Mind
Review of A Beautiful Mind DVD by Jammie1000000

Advantages: Great Story and Deeply informative
Disadvantages: Minor inaccuracies to John Nash's life and work

...thought provoking and also gives a great deal of insight into the mental disorder of schizophrenia and how powerful the mind really is. Plot This story is based on the true story of John Nash, a mathematician who begins hallucinating and imagining people including a friend and roommate from university, called Charles, Charles' niece Marcee, and a Department of Defence agent called William Parcher. After some time, his wife Alicia informs ...

Cast The acting in this film is outstading with Russel Crowe (who plays John Nash) putting a lot of effort into the part of this mathematical genius and the viewer really begins to get attached to this character and starts to feel sorry for him. Jennifer Connelly (who plays Nash's wife Alicia) done some wonderful acting in this film. The viewer ... Read review

Loyalty to country or family?
Review of Notorious DVD by sunmeilan

Advantages: Superb performance by Ingrid Bergman
Disadvantages: Quite slow to begin with

Introduction Just in case you haven't noticed, I'm a big fan of Hitchcock films, particularly the psychological thrillers, and although this film does not quite fit into that category, it is still a strong story directed by a master. Those of you who don't like to watch older films like this because they are black and white and old-fashioned don't know what you are missing. There may not be the special effects of today's films, but there is superb ...
...rarely seen today. And when they're free with newspapers, like this one, there's no excuse really. The director Although Alfred Hitchcock made his best-known films while in Hollywood, he was born in the East End of London and spent the first part of his career in the UK. When he finally moved to the US in 1940, he was already a well-known director, with films such as The Thirty-Nine Steps and Sabotage under his belt. The plot Alicia Huberman's ... Read review

A dissapointing film.
Review of The Other Boleyn Girl DVD by LiviaLavelle

Advantages: Made me read the book before hand which was a wonderful read.
Disadvantages: Very disappointing film that has nothing on the book.

I saw the ads for this film early on and ordered the book from Play.com It may possibly have been the best desicion I have made in a long while. The book was so brilliant that I kind of new what I was letting myslef in for at the cinema. It was a luke warm film, very sparse in it's storyline and frankly not great. It jumped large sections of the book, even skipping year in a matter of minutes. The story of the other Boleyn girl revolves around a ...
...Anne Boleyn. Her journey through the gossiping English court and the whooing of a rich king at the height of his powers. A compelling storyline, however this does not come across this film adapition of Phillipa Gregory's masterpiece. I sat there crying at the end, and my friend couldn't understand the fuss, she having not read the book did not have the emotional connection to the characters as I did. The fact that I had already read the book, made ... Read review

Disadvantages: Theyre film making mistakes

...killed by Juliets cousin and Romeo goes to take revenge on the capulet, once he has dies and falls into the lake and romeo turns around to get into his get away car, you should notice that the window of the car as he gets in is not real glass - it wobbles as the door shakes as it is made from cling film!! Another part of the film which rather makes me and my friend laugh quite alot is when Juliet is set up to marry another man and the first nigth ...
...be stood with him but Romeo takes her hand, just watch the guys face as he turns around whilst clapping!! It truly is absoloutely hilarious we just get stomach cramps every time we watch that scene. If you're not even interested in these types of films.. you simply must watch it just for those scenes! You'll be in bits! ... Read review

Terror in Cornwall?
Review of Straw Dogs DVD by sunmeilan

Advantages: Compelling, great build-up of suspense
Disadvantages: Some will be disturbed by the rape scene

When quiet American mathematician David Sumner and his wife Amy return to her native Cornwall, they are expecting a quiet life. And initially, it seems that they will get their own way. But David has a job to do, Amy feels neglected and bored, and flirting with an ex-boyfriend and his friends, who are helping to repair their delapidated home, seems an obvious way out. It soon becomes apparent that the locals have not taken to David - they go out ...
...the Sumner's cat and raping Amy. Then a girl is killed by a local man, who ends up at the Sumners' home, shortly followed by a gang of men baying for his blood. Before long, their home is under siege. Will the Sumners manage to get out alive? This film was a complete surprise to me. I have heard of it, and its director, Sam Peckinpah, but I had no idea what it was about, or that it was so old - it was made way back in 1971. It is apparently known ... Read review
