Advantages: Great plot, good suspense, supreb acting
Disadvantages: plot is a deep but good all the same

...of a machine called the Enigma , hence the name of the book/movie, that encodes the messages differently each and every time. It was thought to be unbreakable by any standards, but once the Allies salvaged an Enigma machine, the race was on to crack the riddle of the Enigma to save the convoys of ships from the undectable U-boats. The first person to master the Enigma is the mathematician Tom Jericho (dougray Scott), who goes back to Bletchly to ...
...triggered by getting dumped by his girlfriend, the lovely Claire Romilly (Saffron Burrows), who is a very mysterious person in the movie. Tom's the only one who has ever broken one of the codes, and the codebreakers need him back desperately. Later on, the Germans switch their original code, and now he needs to crack it all over again but it isn't as easy as it sounds. He has to do the work that took ten months in four days and failure is not an ... Read review

Biopic of a legend
Review of Chaplin DVD by paulb22

Advantages: Stunning performance by downey jr, great cast,
Disadvantages: Concentrates a little to much on Chaplins private life

...I have been a Charlie Chaplin fan (and a fan of silent comedies in general) since i bought Chaplins masterpiece Modern Times, when i first bought this film, i was wondering how could someone possibly portray Chaplin on screen, but Downey Jr pleasently surprised me. The story follows Chaplins (Downey Jr) rise to stardom starting of as a stand in singer and dancer when his mother (Geraldine Chaplin) is booed of stage, to his final years in exile in ...
...scene when Sennet doesn't think Chaplin is who he really says he is, and Chaplin is forced to perform his famous drunken man routine, this persuades Sennet that Chaplin is the real deal, also at this point we see another famous scene where Chaplin picks out his famous costume. under the direction of Sennet Chaplin also clashes with Mabel Normand (Tomei). After working with Sennet Chaplin branched out on his own, and decided to direct himself, Chaplin ... Read review

Smile, when your heart is breaking...
Review of Chaplin DVD by sunmeilan

Advantages: Great performance from Robert Downey Jr
Disadvantages: Feels rushed

Charles Spencer Chaplin was born in London in the late nineteenth century to music hall entertainers. Soon Chaplin himself realised the potential of the stage, realising he could earn himself a perfectly good living. By 1914, he was living in the States and was fast becoming a household name for his character, a gentleman tramp known simply as 'The Tramp'. He eventually moved into film production too, although he continued to star in his films. But ...
...very public paternity suit against Chaplin which he lost, although blood tests proved he was not the father of the child. And Chaplin's political views frequently got him into trouble - in fact, he was eventually kicked out of the United States during the McCarthy era. Thankfully, a happy final marriage and a peaceful life in Switzerland meant that his life ended without too many other traumas. I must admit I would never have thought of Robert Downey ... a good film, with good acting
Review of In Her Shoes DVD by nicnncha

Advantages: good story, good acting, believable
Disadvantages: dragged at the start

I went to see this in the cinema when it came out, and it i have to say i wasnt too sure i liked it when i came out of the cinema. It was quite a serious type of comedy, which i wasnt expecting. I rewatched it last night though, and have to say i prefered it second time round. It was about 2 sisters who are completely different, one is played by toni collette and shes sensible and hasnt alot of confidence in herself, shes not very successful with ...
...her ruin her sisters life in the beginning of the movie. She doesnt have alot of thought for others, especially her poor sister who does everything for her. After months apart, Cameron Diaz's character maggie, takes stock of her life and then goes on to sort herself out, and she becomes a much nicer indidivual. You see her become more sensible and alot more caring and her transformation is great and i really did like the new maggie. You acting is ... Read review

Empire of the Sun!
Review of Empire Of The Sun (Special Edition) by danmclovin

Advantages: Beautiful, Heartwarming!
Disadvantages: None!

Released in 1988, Empire of the Sun is a brilliant epic movie set during the second world war. Directed by Steven Spielberg, the movie introduced a very young Christian Bale to the silver screen, who we all know by now has gone on to become a household name. The movie is set around the Japanese invasion of China, during the second world war. Jamie Graham (Christian Bale), a precocious and priviledged young boy, and his parents are forced to flee ...
...to the invasion. Amid the mayhem of the escape, Jamie is separated from his parents, and returns to his old house in hope that they will return there to be re-united. As the days and weeks go by, with no sign of his parents returning, and with every last scrap of food having been consumed, Jamie is forced onto the streets of Shanghai, where he is rescued and taken in by two Americans, Basie (John Malkovich) and Frank (Joe Pantoliano). Basie and ... Read review
