Anna and the King personal view
Review of Anna And The King DVD by clairec73

Advantages: Great storyline, fantastic acting and good action shots
Disadvantages: Will not please die hard King and I fans

...Killers) - Jodie Foster as Anna Leonowens (Panic Room, Contact, Nell, Silence of the Lambs) The Film is based on the diaries of Anna Leonowens, who died in Canada, Quebec from a stroke in 1915. I think this is better than the original (King and I) despite my fondness of musicals. The acting is superb and there is a huge cast of extras. I can't imagine how difficult this was to make a film with the costumes (that are superb) and locations involved. ...
...Fiesty teacher, recently widowed who travels to Siam to teach the children of King Mongkut. There she learns that Siam is very different from all that she knows back in England. The film is set in the 1860s and the relationship between the Teacher and the King develops from a cold respect for each others values, into a love interest/ sparring contest. Chow Yun-Fat is magnificent in the title role of the King and plays a philosophical Ruler with ... Read review

matchpoint
Review of Match Point DVD by starcuregirl

Advantages: brilliant acting excellent plot
Disadvantages: NONE

Im going to start negatively Ive never really like woody allen films, I dont know why exactly and everyone I know loves him. But Ive been converted. What a fantastic film, great setting, in London, great actors and acting. Woody allen plays a silly old man a bit like miss marple. Hes not the main character but plays a crucial part. The plot is full of seduction betrayal and a healthy dose of suspense. Irony plays a big part too. Its one of those ... Read review

Volvere a ver esta pelicula en el futuro :)
Review of Volver DVD by charlsayslol

Advantages: amazing film, another almodovar classic
Disadvantages: none in particular, unless you prefer english language films

Volver (To Return) is the most recent film by Spain’s most well known and successful film director, Pedro Almodovar. I am a fan of almost all of Almodovar’s films, and even decided to do my A Level Spanish oral presentation on his life and films. I did my exam about him today, and so I decided that now would be a good time to review my favourite of his many films. *Synopsis* Volver is the story of the women in a small family living in Spain in ...
...convincingly. *My opinion* Volver is my favourite film by Almodovar, although I love the majority of his work. I just thought that the storyline of this film was fantastic, and that the actors really helped to make the film as amazing as it could be. The fact that this is the only one of his films that I have seen on the big screen in a cinema probably helped, as this added to the atmosphere the first time I saw it. If you have seen any others ... Read review

Gandhi
Review of Gandhi DVD by jaygami1986

Advantages: read opp
Disadvantages: read opp

...the fight, dedication and determination Gandhi had to secure the countries independence. The film is both moving and very informative, its slow paced but that's the purpose of the film, its both dramatic and so powerfully moving. The film was a true appraisal of the life and legacy of Mahatma, it showed his beliefs, his coriage, power and determination to fight for a just cause. The film was brilliantly directed by Attenborugh, and is lead by a very ...
...known figure. We see how Gandhi gets assisnated during an evening walk in the garden, being shot by a young man and then shouting out "Oh God" before he dies. The film then rewinds back to the early moments of Gandhi's movement for freedom. We don't get to see his childhood or any aspect of his parental life etc, it moves straight into the pivotal moment were Gandhi is thrown off a train in South Africa, because he was travelling in first class. ... Spanish Ties
Review of Tie Me Up! Tie Me Down! DVD by fizzytom

Advantages: Stylish, sophisticated, witty
Disadvantages: It had to end!

...comedies and "Tie Me Up, Tie Me Down" (1990) is probably the darkest of all. Ricky (Antonio Banderas) is discharged from a psychiatric hospital where he has spent the last few years, following a traumatic adolescence during which he repeatedly absconded from a series of orphanages and reform homes. Desperate for a normal life he sets his sights on Marina, a porn actress with whom he had once had a one-night stand. Now acting in dreadful B-movies, ...
...a start, Ricky does not tie Marina up for erotic reasons; it is the only way he can think of to get her full attention. It is symbolic that Marina, who would usually be willingly tied up for the cameras should suffer this fate. The notion of the captive as weak and the captor as in charge is similarly dispelled; despite being a captive, it is Marina who calls the shots. The eager to please, almost subservient Ricky will do whatever it takes to convince ... Read review
