...legend in the making. East of Eden is based on John Steinbecks classic novel - it is a powerful performance. Rebel is by far the most exciting as a film, and is also filmed in colour. The character is much like Jimmy's own character in real life. Jimmy Dean had a difficult relatonship with his father and had lost his mother. Just a couple of criticisms - the boxset was supposed to be celebrating the last 50 years of ITV, but all the dramas included were from the last 15 years or so. I'm surprised there wasn't more of a mix of older dramas, of which I'm sure there is any number. Another is, of course, the price. When you can get choice episodes like these free with a newspaper, it does make this set rather expensive ... Read review

Advantages: Good action sequences (Better enjoyed on a big screen)

On paper this film has everything: An engaging storyline, big-name actors, a director with a great pedigree and a good high-tempo plot - but, for me at least, its lacking something. The opening scenes primed me to fall in love with this movie as a point of empathy for the plight of Djimon Hounsou's likeable character was quickly established, while at the same time Leonardo DiCaprio's "Danny Archer" was set-up as a sharp but clearly vulnerable man ...
