A film without CGI or action sequences!!!
Review of Pride And Prejudice DVD by
rosieemma91
Advantages: Charming with excellent acting and beautiful locations
Disadvantages: Not suited to adrenalin junkies.
This is a wonderful adaptation for one reason. It doesn't rely on spectacular special effects, nor on CGI. It is simply filled with great acting and beatiful locations which make it a hit.
Keira Knightley is a wonderfully stubborn, headstrong and independant Elizabeth Bennet, opposite a perfectly cast, deep voiced Matthew Macfadyen as Darcy.
The chemistry the share when together is perfect, and embodies the feelings the characters have for each ... ...Pike is an ethereal beauty as Jane, yet somehow makes her character seem slightly inverted and therefore doesn't overwhelm Jane's insecurities over Bingley.
Donald Sutherland triumphs with his English accent, and he and Brenda Blethyn work together wonderfully to show us the loving, yet constantly bickering Mr and Mrs Bennet.
The locations are beautiful, including Chatsworth house as Mr Darcy's home. Overall, a beautiful, happy and very natural ...

Stylish Crime Thriller
Review of Training Day DVD by
mcicp19
Advantages: Denzel Washington acting his socks off, brilliant story
Disadvantages: none (maybe Dr Dre's acting)
Training Day is a film directed by Antoine Fuqua (director of 'King Arthur' and 'Shooter'), following 24 hours in the life of LAPD 'by the book' officer Jake Hoyt (Eathan Hawk) as he spends an evaluation day with charismatic narcotics officer and highly decorated detective Alonzo Harris (the superb Denzel Washington).
As Hoyt quickly finds out life with LA's narcotics division isn't quite what he expected and he is thrown into a mixture of dangerous ... ...than just pictures. Parts of Training Day were shot on a dead end street called Palmwood Dr where the Black P. Stones Blood gangmembers were seen on the rooftops. Cle Shaheed Sloan, the gang technical advisor of Training Day, managed to get on screen real-life gang members from Rollin' 60 Crips, PJ Watts Crips and B.P.Stones Bloods.
The soundtrack is excellent and fit's perfectly in with the decorum of the film, with mostly hip-hop tracks.

I want my cigarettes too Ratchet you cow!
Review of One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest DVD by
Judgee
Advantages: Great entertainment
Disadvantages: not for fast action fans particularly
...forever perfect. This is just one of a handful of movies out of thousands that I could happily watch twenty four hours a day, every day, for the rest of my life! What makes it so good? Read on if you want to know more….
The Story….
Randle P. McMurphy [played by Jack Nicholson] is a loud-mouthed fast talking convict. He has learnt that he can shorten his sentence and spend his remaining time in a nice cosy mental hospital, if he can convince the ... ...characters relationship with Randle is one that really stands out, as does his overall performance, only being overshadowed by perhaps Nicholson himself!
Louise Fletcher is cold and annoying as "Nurse Ratched" the woman just oozes irritation. The kind of character you would like to see hit over the head with a fridge. It's not surprising the inmates refer to her as nurse "Ratchet". You need an evil Ratched to balance out the nicer characters and ...

Review of Save The Last Dance (Wide Screen) by
melliebird
Advantages: An outstanding film
Disadvantages: None what so ever
Hello People, I am writing my review based on the film "Save The Last Dance" which is an exceptional film which deals with issues relating to moving areas, racial issues, losing a loved one, making friends and falling in love…. I wouldn't class this as a chick flick film, I think it is one for everyone to watch and enjoy!! This film was directed by Thomas Carter and written by Duane Adler both the story and screen, it was released in 2001. The film ... ... Basic Storyline

shawshank
Review of The Shawshank Redemption (Limited Edition) by
jo_field26
Advantages: great film
Disadvantages: it took me years to find
...it's a film that shows the harsh realities that a prisoner has to face and then it ends with the prisoners getting one up on the prison officers after the years of torture that they had been put through.
It's about a city banker Andy Dufresne played by Tim Robbins when he arrives at Shawshank Prison in 1947, he was convicted of two brutal murders and received a double life sentence.
In Shawshank Andy forms an unlikely friendship with Red played ... ...he also becomes popular with the Warden and the prison's guards, as Andy is able to use his banking experience to help the corrupt officials to hide there fortunes and avoid taxes.
In the end Andy manages to escape from Shawshank, which I was not expecting and sets him self up with the money that belonged to the Warden that Andy had been hiding in an account for him over the years. Later on when Red is finally released he goes and finds Andy and ...
