Draper Expert Petrol Hedge Trimmer

Summer's here and the hedge is growing!

Advantages: Inexpensive, full kit, including mixing bottle and two stroke oil
Disadvantages: A little heavy and build quality couuld be better

Although electric hedge trimmers are lightweight and relatively cheap, I find that having to trail extensions round the garden, look out the circuit breaker, and at least twice a year cutting the cable, it was getting to be a pain in the preverbal backside ? I?d tried rechargeable clippers, but found they didn?t hold enough of a charge to do my five metre long by two metre high hedge. Nothing for it, I thought, but to get a petrol trimmer. The trouble is, petrol hedge cutters don?t come cheap ? and if I was working as a gardener I wouldn?t mind investing the £100+ on a half decent model, but as I?d only use it half a dozen times a year, it?s a bit of an extravagance. Luckily, the nice people at Argos offer a halfway house in the form of the Spear and Jackson 26cc petrol trimmer. To be honest, it?s a little bit crudely ...

Advantages: A very useful piece of garden equipment.
Disadvantages: Cost, has to be justified.

Draper 5l Expert Garden Sprayer. A wonderful piece of kit, sixteen inches tall without the handle, and holding five gallons of whatever you want. There are of course certain types of fluid you can't use in this, like for example solvents, this sprayer is for all your garden spraying requirements, everything from water, to herbicides and pesticides, insecticides and fungicides, de-icer and solvent-free preservative treatments. You can also spray used washing up water of course. Made from plastic, there are no corrosion problems, and as long as it is stored correctly especially over the Winter period, it should last for many years. Challenge 400 Watt Hedge Trimmer

Advantages: Price, Safety Guard, Powerful, Light, Reasonable Flex, Easy to set up
Disadvantages: None that I could find.

On looking for a hedge trimmer I wanted one that wasn't too expensive but would still do the job. With a little apprehension due to the price I purchased the Challenge 400 Hedge Trimmer from Argos. The only setup required is to attach the safety guard to the trimmer with the two screws provided. I was half way through trimming the front garden hedge and the item just stopped working. I took the trimmer back to Argos and decided to exchange it for the same model (just to see if I was unlucky with the first one). I have now used the trimmer successfully without any problems around 8 times now along with all the back garden. I couldn't believe how light the unit was, even my wife thought it was light. Anyone looking for a trimmer that will "Do the Job" for a fraction of the price should consider this model. ...
