Advantages: Great choice of Digital satellite tv and more future proof Disadvantages: hard to set up
The Dreambox Dm7000s is a brand new type of digital satellite reciever, instead of the usual type of plug n tune the Dreambox is a reciever that uses computer technology based around the Linux OS.
When you first open the box what do you get?
1 reciever,1 power cable,1 remote control,1 manual,guarentee card and 2 AA batteries.
The reciever is a nice looking reciever measuring roughly 38cm x 24cm x 7cm ... ...sending the settings to your Dreambox that simple, also third party software is available which allows you to easily arrange and add extra channels within seconds which is a bonus.
The dreambox also has the technology which allows you to add a hardrive converting the box into a pvr allowing you to record your favourite channels onto hardrive which is something you only see in the top range recievers.

When you first open the box what do you get?
1 reciever,1 power cable,1 remote control,1 manual,guarentee card and 2 AA batteries.
The reciever is a nice looking reciever measuring roughly 38cm x 24cm x 7cm nicer than your average looking box, black and silver and a large lcd on the right hand side of the box, the lcd can be blue or orange, on the left hand side of the front of the box there is a pull down flap under this flap is a CI-Module slot where you can purchase seperate Cams and install these (cams are devices that allow official cards to recieve channels), there is also a compact flash slot where compact flash cards can be inserted, and two smartcard readers where official cards can be installed.
On the back of the box there are 2 scart plugs , 2 analogue audio phono sockets, Digital out, Ethernet out(for networking ),mini din ,Usb Port (for optional keyboard) a rs 232 connector and a lnb in and lnb out and the power socket.
In order to get the most of this Linux Based reciever you must have this on a network the easiest is a straight Cross wired cat 5 cable from the box into your computer setting this up can take all but 10 minutes if your`e computer is capable of networking ,If not it can take days and extra purchase of a Ethernet card for your pc.
Once everything is up n running you are capable of getting the latest channel settings via the net, So instead of usual unplugging the box etc, its a matter of connecting to the net and sending the settings to your Dreambox that simple, also third party software is available which allows you to easily arrange and add extra channels within seconds which is a bonus.
The dreambox also has the technology which allows you to add a hardrive converting the box into a pvr allowing you to record your favourite channels onto hardrive which is something you only see in the top range recievers.
The dreambox picture was excellent the picture was clean and good and the sound was excellent, the remote control which features the technology to operate your tv as well, it is a nice looking silver unit with all the buttons you`d come to expect plus more a simple Dream button allows you to access the Dreambox Menus which are straight forward to follow.
The instructions manual is around 73pages thick and looking more like a exercise book consists of French,German and English, other languages are available im sure.
The Best thing about this reciever is once the pain of getting the network up n running you shouldnt have to keep moving it to your computer to update also being Software based you will constantly see new features added like mpeg4 etc, so in theory this reciever should never get dated so quick.
I would recommend this reciever to someone who wants something other than just a satellite box and wants to help develop it, yes its a on going development so expect software updates every now and then, if you just want to watch satellite and you don`t have any computer skills i recommend a different reciever.
