The Dreambox is the best FTA Box ever made. The Dreambox runs using Linux, the feature list of the Dreambox 500-C is unbelievable. I have had one of these things for around a year, and I am still discovering new things I can do with it everyday. The box itself is very small, and quite slim, this means there is still plenty of space left on your TV Cabinet for other electronic goodies.

You can connect the box to the internet via the Ethernet port at the back of the box. This feature enables the user to record what is on the Dreambox, directly to their PC Hard-drive via the network (3rd party software required).

The box can be bought quite cheaply from numerous websites on the internet, a simple Google search will bring up many entries for websites selling the boxes.

Users can also download many images from the internet, and install them on the receiver. Images are made by developers from different teams. Some well known developers of Dreambox Images are NabiloSat, Gemini, Pli. These images allow the user to enhance their experience with their Dreambox to a greater extent. Users can change skins, parental lock specific channels, create bouquets to group certain types of channels. Users can also download many plugins with certain images. There are numerous amounts of plugins for the Dreambox, and these enhance the users experience even more.

One great point is that the Dreambox 500 Series is the unit which has had the most plugins, software etc. developed for it, and more plugins etc. are being developed each day, so don't worry if you think the Dreambox 500 plugin development will dry up anytime soon, because the way it looks, the Dreambox 500 will be staying around for quite a long time.

One downside to the box is the lack of channel changing buttons on the receiver, this means if you lose your remote control, there is no way to change the channel of the box, unless you have it connected to the network, and you can use certain software to change the channel. Although a replacement remote control can be found easily, and are very inexpensive.
