I am familiar with HTML code, but tables have always been a mystery to me. When I purchased Dreamweaver I was very pleased to see a "format table" option which allows the user to specify colour settings to spice up the tables. Also cells may be merged and adjusted at the click of a mouse button. All HTML code is generated automatically so users without knowledge of HTML will have no problems at all. HTML is only visible if you want it to be. I choose to display the HTML code as I find it very educational - You insert something at the click of a button then find out the code! The help file is actually very helpfull, so no more reading through heavy manuals!
Although the package is user friendly it is recommended that the user is aware of all the features. I produced a web site without exploring everything. The site was outstanding but I could have made it twice as better if I had of explored all of the features.
Rollover images also puzzled me, but again these can be achieved easily by specifying two images "Original image" and "rollover image". Once the two images have been specified, the user just has to type in a URL and hey presto! an image which changes when pointed to and a link to another web page!
Users familisr with Macromedia products will be pleased to hear that most file formats are compatible with Dreamweaver including Flash, Shockwave, Generator and Fireworks.
The package works on a WYSIWYG basic (What you see is what you get). When an image or a block of text is placed on-screen, that is how it will be displayed when the page is published. The user interface consists of "panels" which are basically toolbars which can moved around the work area. These panels can be hidden if you do not intend to use any tools in the panel. It is this flexibility which makes Dreamweaver 3 the ultimate user friendly web site production software package.
Advantages: easy to use, fun to use Disadvantages: not cheap, had features that are hard to implament
I came home from school and as it was a horrible winter day I went upstairs to the study to go and mess about on the computer. But there was one problem; my Dad was already busy messing around on it. It took several hours before he eventually got off the thing and when I went on I found out why. In the few hours that I had spent home after school he had managed to make a pretty nifty website with macromedia Dream weaver 3. This astonished me with ... ...to have a go, and soon after I had developed my own website.
This goes to show how easy Macromedia products are to use.
~~ Ease of installing ~~
I have to give Macromedia Dream Weaver 3 a nice high mark for this; it was quick and relatively painful. Or what I remember of installing it was :o) There is the serial code thingy which can become confusing because they print the code in such a horrible font that you don’t know if it’s a number 0 or ...

Advantages: All encompassing package with access to a network of extra features. Easy to start but indepth enough for the seasoned pro. Disadvantages: Expensive there's no denying it and much more complicated than Frontpage
...had enough money to buy Dreamweaver and I've never looked back.
What you get is a WYSIWYG web editor with the sorts of professional functions that I had to teach myself when I started. Free JavaScripts etc. all come within the Dreamweaver package, along with testing programs that will check all the links across your site, are there any stored images that you haven't used, and does it work on both Netscape and Explorer (a must as any pro will tell ... ...site has downloadable extensions for Dreamweaver to increase the enhancments on offer to you, as well as online tech support and discussion boards.

Cons
At £300 approx it is out of some leagues, however I stress that once the money is laid out, the quality of the product more than makes up for the price.
When you get into it in depth, it can get a lot more complicated than Frontpage and to appreciate ...

Advantages: Best authoring package available Disadvantages: Far too pricey
...you need to get Macromedia Dreamweaver 3. Home users on the other hand will find this to be well out of their price range. The compromise for anyone who cannot afford Dreamweaver 3 is to get an earlier version. Most people will not even notice too much difference on the surface between v2 and v3 and even v1 is still better than any other similar software. I believe that version 1 (and possibly version 2) are now available free, the .net magazine ... ...a few months ago. If you have a web site do yourself a favour and get hold of a copy. The package itself appears a bit daunting at first but is really easy to use once you get the hang of it. I always liken WYSIWYG editors to word processors - you wouldn't expect anyone to sit in front of MS Word for the first time and be able to use all of its functionality straight away. So you should expect to spend a bit of time getting to know the product. If ...

Advantages: Ease of use and Functionality Disadvantages: None
Dreamweaver 3.0 is an excellent product that is very easy to use and allows you to create professional looking web sites in a relatively short space of time. I have used many other html editors, but none come close to dreamweaver for functionality or ease of use. I have created quite a few websites and the way in which you can create template web pages makes writing multiple page websites a dream!
The Help system is very clear and concise and explains ...

Advantages: Simple to use, easy to create impressive interactive elements to your sites Disadvantages: The price (Out of the range of students I would think)
firstly, lets just say that I 'aqquired' a copy of this Web-Page builder, with no actual interset in it. I had previousley used Liquid FX to build sites, because it was easy to use, and used Fireworks to design the visuals. However, within minutes of toying around with DW3, it was clear that I'd been wasting a lot of my time. I can't quite explain how simple and efficient it is to use, although there are many complicated functions within it that ... ...for that Monkey...
-Impressive rollovers at the click of a button
-Realtime script update (If you drag a table down to the bottom of the screen, the script updates immediately)
-Drag and drop images anywhere on screen
I'm only learning to use it at the moment, so I'm probably not doing it justice, but you really should try to get hold of a copy. Beginner or master, you will save many hours of script-slog with this little dream. (Excuse the pun) ...
