As a web designer for various companies, I have used most of the available software for this purpose, and the one I have always come to rely on is Macromedia Dreamweaver, in its various versions. Macromedia publish the highest quality software – in particular Flash/Shockwave, the Internet standard for web animation and interactivity. Dreamweaver integrates excellently with the other Macromedia products, and will easily allow you to put Flash objects on your page. Dreamweaver 4 is quite simply the best web design and editing software around. There is seemingly nothing this application can't do, and it lets you do it all so easily. Using it is, in fact, a dream. I started my web design career using Front Page and produced lots of boring 'boxy' looking sites thinking they were fine. Those of you who may have read my ColdFusion review will know that I’m not the world’s biggest fan of Microsoft. They seem to have the knack of making products that people will accept (usually because they’re so widely distributed) even though there’s better stuff available. Macromedia Dreamweaver has since its earliest version become *the tool* for professional webdesigners, and not content with being out in front there are regular updated versions, with the latest incarnation, Macromedia Dreamweaver 4 (hereafter referred to as DW4) hitting shelves, cyber shopping trolleys at the end of 2000.
