This has to be the most disappointing game ever in the history of games. Look at the Edsel. If you hype up something to be really, really great it will never seem as good as it was made out to be.
Sadly, Driv3r was delayed while probelms were fixed for so long it was not hard to tell something was up. You are Tanner, some undecover cop. If they hadn't told us so on the packaging I probably wouldn't know. He goes to Miami, Nice, and Istanbul. One of Driv3r problems is that while the gameplay is so over the top, the almost sepia ultra stylish, dark, cool cutscenes and intros are very subtle. I'll rephrase that. VERY, EXTREMELY DARN HARD TO FOLLOW.
You'll not know who Dubois is, whether this guy is a crime lord, whether Calita wants you dead or not, and so on. They simply defy common sense. MIcheal Madsen voices Tanner, the tough hard as nail cop on the edge. There's narration by that Ving Rhames guy, who, even if he seldom speaks, seems to suffer from a case of verbal diahorrea, managing to say something even if it doesn't follow thorugh or make any sense. It's so, obviously, desparately trying to be cool, It's enough even to make a devout chav laugh.
Considering the amount of hollywood talent here, it's all been flushed totally down the loo.
It's not like this is a minor problem either, there are 45 minutes of these movies in the game, making them them rather significant.
There's not even any characterization, either, not even visual characterization. Aside from everyone being tough and hard as nails, all the men seemed to have been cloned from the same foetus, or at least all come from the same family. The most ridiculous cutscene is when Tanner is asked to shoot another man, who is hanging upside down. He's even wearing Tanner's clothing as well.

Now we've sorted out the plot, we'll move onto the gameplay.
There are 70+ cars and boats and bikes here, not on par with GTA, but there is certainly oodles more thought and detail gone into each car. They really do look beautiful, glinting in the sun. The damage system is amazing, with numerous crumple zones.

It's amazing how far they can be demolished as well. There's lots of fun to be had simply shooting at them and crashing tham into to walls. Enthusiasts wil love selection, with different cars for each city. The lack of licensed vehicles doesn't spoil the fun either. There's a Delorean alike, Mercedes 190SL, E-Type, Dodge Charger, Aston Martin Vantage and so on, even a blatently obvious Bugatti Atlantic. (Car purists will know what I'm talking about)
Considering you'll be spending about 60% of the game driving, It's important to know the problems as well. The motorbikes are ludicrously twitchy, all the cars, including the pseudo-Renault 5 seem to weigh about 2 tons, and the cars also seem incapable of turning without skidding raucously, even at 20 mph.
There is also some realism rearing it's ugly head. Streetlamps.
These little devils lower the score by quite a bit.

Hit them, no matter what speed, in an 18 wheeler, anything, and they will stop you in your tracks and refuse to budge.
Simple calcuations tell me that with a truck wieghing at at least 50 tons, moving at 60 mph towards a skinny hollow iron bar, weighing in at most a ton, ought to be flattened, or at the very least bent. But no.
Driv3r defies logic in every way. The on-foot sections are even more ridiculous. Shooting is very hard due to a lack of poor tuning, the running animation looks like Tanner is running a "rigged" race to make sure his tiny tot nephew wins, a sort of half-hearted, namby-pamby padding, the walking shows tanner's legs to be two thin blue tubes that barely animate, the swimming animation gets a giggle out of everyone I play the game with. The jumping animation is... well.....hard to put into English.
Then there are the awful, awful glitches.
Driv3r is possibly the buggiest game around, honestly.
It isn't even compentent enough to pass as a demo, let alone as something you pay for.
One Tanner fell of his bike and never got up, he just lay there panting. The game often crashes, pedestrians walk straight off buildings (how they got up there is anyone's guess) ...
I could go on for ever. I know GTA had lots of bugs, but the level of them here is simply inexcusable.
The game is also LUDICROUSLY hard. Really hard. MIssions consist of shooting all the baddies, driving to something, getting away from something, or chasing something. That's it really. Most of them are so hard as to not be fun at all. Take the chase, one of the last missions. You have to chase after a much faster car though traffic. Hitting a car means you stop completely. "She got away" it says. Game Over. This time there's a massive build up at the junction. Calita, the one I'm chasing, wound her way though it. My car simply can't. Game Over. Flat out on straight.
Game Over. And so on. It's simply maddening. You can't believe the Developers wanted, or even thought you could have fun with this heap.
The only saving grace in the gameplay depatment is the Free Roam. You can roam Miami and Nice right from the start, while
Istanbul is unlockable if you play the singleplayer long enough.
There"s also some driving games. Complete them and the words "Well done" appear on the screen. Nuff' said.

Lamposts, bugs, weighty cars and other things simply mean that Driv3r is not much fun to play.

Luckily Driv3r is better in the graphics depatment. Yep, there's sunny cities, shiny cars, slow motion. And plenty of grit, giving the whole look of the game an edge. But also there's fogging, pop up, and a almost total lack of anti-aliasing, meaning lots of "jaggies". However, getting in a boat in free roam, driving out to sea, and looking back at Nice is beautiful. (One of the few occasions the draw distance is acceptable).
It look quite alright, although the director mode has to be limited to car chases, because the on-foot action is so uncinematic.
Director mode is a pretty good bonus, although it's somewhat spoiled but the clumsy interface and the street lamp problem.

Apart from the expressionless "cool" voice acting, Driv3r also boasts some mediocre music. Some is acceptable, a litle great, but the rest pretty repetative and awful, like a "funky" key board rhythm looping endlessly. There is some licensed heavy metal in the cutscenes, but it makes little difference. You can turn off the looping rhythm in the Pause menu, which makes the game a darn sight more fun.

Basically, Driv3r is a pretty bad game with some good bits, the opposite of GTA. It's plays like a very early beta and is only about 90% complete. A few more months woud have solved all the problems and made it a pretty playable game.
It's simply not a whole lot of fun, every part of the game being heavily flawed.

NEVER AS IT WAS ON THE PLAY STATION 1
Review of Driver 3: Driv3r (PS2) by apatra

Advantages: GOOD GAME GRAPHICS WITH GOOD CARS.
Disadvantages: HARD TO CONTROL THAT CAUSES CAR CRASHES.

The games latest installation the driver 3 on the play station 2 console is not the type of game that I played in the play station 1 console. Although there are some additional features in the play station 2 version, the game doesn't seem to project the play station 1 action scene we used to know or rather play. THE GAME STORY. Well as a teenager, I found it difficult to follow the story up, well whom will you blame about that. As teenagers, we ...
...other but in contraction, the driver is developed more on driving and bringing down the baddies but the GTA is more on moving with legs, driving and even flying in some versions. Also in GTA, you have the choice of not entering into a moving vehicle. There is some hidden character that I find difficult to know his mission objective and the name is Dubois. Well no body can tell if Dubois is out there for good or for bad. THE GAME PLAY. The game ... Read review

DRIVER - STUCK IN REVERSE?
Review of Driver 3: Driv3r (PS2) by Puma1000

Advantages: Large cities, quick to get into action , good car chases and replays.
Disadvantages: Lack of original plot and unimaginative update of the Driver series. Better alternatives - see Vice City.

...OVERVIEW --- Surprisingly enough Driver 3 is a driving adventure game set in the cities of Miami, Nice, and more originally Istanbul. You play the part of an undercover cop who is trying to break a car-theft ring. You control an array of vehicles using them to chase criminals, deliver packages, and shoot at those bad guys from. In addition there are also some foot missions which add some variety to the game. All in all nothing particularly new. ...
...which graphically improves on its Driver prequels, but doesn't deliver much more in terms of gameplay. Grand Theft Auto: VIce City if you don't own it a much better game in a similar style and was out over a year ago, Driver 3 doesn't manage to improve on that games quality. The hype will probably guarantee its success, but either rent it or wait for it to drastically reduce in price as overall there are too many flaws to recommend it at full whack. ... Driver 3: a good or bad game
Review of Driver 3: Driv3r (PS2) by johnread1234

Advantages: Nice car chases and shooting missions.
Disadvantages: some really hard levels, which are really really hard.

...It's good originality because driver 1 and 2 were on ps1and they know everybody liked the story's in them because there simple and easy to understand, but this one feels as though they've gone to far, that it's too big and you don't understand the story very well, so when the next mission comes up, you don't why or what the mission is for. The Graphics are mostly good, the lamp posts are in the right places and so are the hedges, but there are some ...
...their is a new driver out called, Driver: parallel lines which is really good and theirs another good game similar to driver 3, called True Crime: New York City which is also really good. I have gave this game average 5/10 because in some places it's good and in some places it's bad. ... Read review

Driver 3 - I love it ! ! !
Review of Driver 3: Driv3r (PS2) by gavallan2020

Advantages: graphics (for a ps2 game) weapons selection police pursuits detailed maps unlimited length
Disadvantages: no multiplayer option aiming the gun is tough at first

...newer games. In a way, Driver 3 is kind of like Grand Theft Auto games as the idea of free roaming about, shooting stuff up, stealing cars and getting into pursuits plays a very big part in the game. In terms of the career, on the whole it is good, but some missions are a bit boring and others are really hard. On the other hand, there are some great missions like hijacking a cruise ship, planting a bomb and then getting away by boat. There are also ...
...This does add a fair bit of length on to the game if you complete them. These extras include killing the 30 Tommy Vercellis (10 per city), a "Tommy Vercelli" is basically like a police agent armed with a machine gun. Although they don't look like that, thats roughly how good they are. If you kill all of them, you unlock special cheats that can't be unlocked otherwise. Since I completed the game and found everything there is in it, here are some more ... Read review

...The control pad in the best pad out of all gaming pads as it was such a success on the ps2 they decided to use the same on the ps2 with the new addition on a longer wire and pressure sensitive buttons. RANGE OF GAMES The range of games on this games console is unbelievable it has great games for all target audience for children it has football games like FIFA and the hugely popular pro evolution soccer series, and games for smaller kids like Disney range and nickelodeon series like Rugrats etc. The ps2 is not just for kids as it has 18 rated great games like the great Grand Theft Auto series and not forgetting The Getaway which is a great crime based gamed in London.
