SecurDisc - Why not?
Advantages: Cheap, pretty quiet, works fine, comes with Securdisc at no real extra cost.

...am writing this review, this LG drive is not only cheap, cheerful, easy to install, super-fast at burning and generally as good as most other writers. It also has Securdisc. Securdisc is pretty obvious, its name is self-explanatory. It is a way of securing your discs - but from what exactly? Mainly from theft, piracy and children, but it also warns you when your files are in danger of becoming corrupt from disc decay. So if you store a lot of files ...
...be putting those files at risk of becoming corrupted due to just simple over-use. This burner has built in Securdisc which will scan for any degrading files, and then repair them using information stored when you first burned the disc. Pretty clever actually, it is probably safer storing on to these types of disc than onto your hard-drive. Advantages: ummmmm
Disadvantages: Doesn't work very well, slow, intermitently recognises disks, poor back up service, need I go on?
I ordered my Freecom DVD Recorder LS USB 2.0 after my CD/DVD drive packed up on my 15 month old HP Desktop. I wanted it mainly to load CD ROM and burn DVD's from movies already converted to DVD format on my hard drive. Very Dissapointing Sony VRD-MC6
Advantages: Its great if you have an old camcorder or better a Sony one.
Disadvantages: No good for High Definition Video produced by other suppliers
I have just purchased a Sony VRD-MC6 Multi Function Recorder which, according to their advertising "Works with any Camcorder" It does NOT. I checked with Sony HQ before buying, that it would convert High Definition Video from a new Sanyo VPC-HD 2000 Camcorder,into a High Def on DVD with no loss of quality. They confirmed that it would, no question!!! Today,after I failed to get it to work, they have confirmed that it cannot handle JPEG4 formats which ...
