Advantages: Perfect with dvd's
Disadvantages: major problem after using lightscribe

...never had any problems with asus products until now. Everything was working fine until I used the lightscribe function for the first time, now it absolutely refuses to recognise any cd, dvd's work perfectly, both reading and writing, but when a cd is loaded all the drive does is make a hell of a racket. The Asus DRW1608P is a lovely grey machine and looks just like it does in the picture. the speeds are as follows: 5 x DVD-RAM 8 x DVD+RW 6 x DVD-RW 8 x DVD +/-R (DL) 40 x CD-R 32 x CD-RW Does not lightscribe. As i mentioned this machine can under perform slightly on RW but on the whole its fast and reliable.
