One of the best makers
Review of Toshiba CD-ROM Drive by
robbailey
Advantages: Very reliable
Disadvantages: None
One of the best CD Player makers in the business. I have never had any problems with this make of CD Player since I have been using them. Have fitted this make of CD Player in nearly every machine I have built for my self and for my customers for around the last six years and don’t think I have had one returned to me that is not working.
Have tried all the other makes of CD Players and have had problems in one way or another with them except the ...

A high quality cd-rom drive
Review of Teac Desktop CD-ROM 532E by
richard_richard
Advantages: Quality and reliability of drive
Disadvantages: Outdated and discontinued model
The Teac 532 cd rom drive is an cd-rom reader that is designed to be fitted internally into a PC.
I had this unit in my PC for about 2 years before I decided to upgrade the whole system.
I paid about £120 for this drive and at the time 32x read speed was about the industry standard. How times change as now we are looking up to 72x read speeds on cd-rom drives, which make this unit look positively tortoise-like!
Specs
This cd-rom drive is compatible ... ...would recommend it to anyone. Unfortunately the unit is no longer manufactured, but TEAC do offer more up to date cd-rom drives with quicker read speeds, and so I would recommend that you take a look at them if you want a high quality cd drive.
Thanks for reading! ...

Magic
Review of Plextor UltraPleX 32X by
millsy
Advantages: Great SCSI Reader
Disadvantages: Expensive
I bought my UltraPlex soon after i bought my first CD-Writer, i found that whilst with mt SCSI wirter when for instance playing an audio CD, i could do just about anything with my PC and sill not have any jitters, with my IDE reader, i had to leave the PC well alone. so armed with the profits from building a PC for someone, i went and splashed out one huindred quid on my Plex. That has been a worthwhile investment, not only is it more stable than ...

Lite-On SOHW-832S DVD/RW Combo drive
Review of LiteOn SOHW-832S by
lallofrall
Advantages: Great at its job, quick, easy to use, easy to install
Disadvantages: Not fully reliable, not easy to fix
Ahh, i have a very mixed opinion on this product. This drive came pre installed on my desktop and was very faithful to me! It always worked and got the job done very well when i needed it! It burnt DVD's with ease and CD's even quicker! However i had one fateful day when i had to recover my PC and completely reset it! I re-installed all the drivers for all of my hardware and everything worked except... Lite-On SOHW-832S DVD/RW Combo drive i tried ... ...but it wasn't!!! It didn't recognise when a DVD or a CD was inserted and it would no longer burn! I uninstalled it and re-installed it countless times but nope! Nothing worked, so now my main desktop computer is without a CD Writing drive! I do not wish to put others off buying it though as when it worked it was very good! I'm sure mine is just a one off! ...

Got a Floppy Disk?
Review of Freecom Floppy disk drive 1.44 MB by
burns2007
Advantages: Quick, Easy, Reliable, Small, Fits into any pocket or bag
Disadvantages: Faded out use lately
I originally bought this external floppy drive a few years ago after the standard for laptops was not to have an inbuilt floppy drive already in them however at the time floppy disks were still in use from time to time. It doesn't mean that this can't be used for desktop computers that don't have internal floppy drives.
Power
*********
Usually when having an external device like an external hard drive or optical drive you would usually need more ... ...the power into a power socket in the wall and a separate cable to send and receive data between the device and the computer however with this external floppy drive it has completely changed. Now all that is need with this floppy drive is simply just one USB cable with a mini USB connected to the drive making it quick and easy to use when your on the move as well as easy to fit and store on the move with no extra cabling which could possibly get tangled ...
