i have owned one of these for over 18months now, after my unbranded 24x drive gave up the ghost. i installed it, without the need for any drivers, just plugged it in, and once in windows, there it was. ive never had a problem with it, it reads all types of media, cdr, cdrw, black cd, normal cd, and as i said, i have never had a problem with it. i also know of two other people that own the exact same drive, and have also never had any problems, so ... ...that I bought me the Plextor drive. I do this becaus I want this device to extract audio and I've heard that it was the fastest device. On the homepage of the manufactor and on other homepages I'd seen that it could extract audio with up to 40x. And that wasn't a lie. It could extract an audio-cd in less then 3 Minutes and that without any error. I really like this device and if there is anyone who thing that there is a better device for audio-extraction ... well, as far as this drive is concerned... firstly, it looks very smart and beautiful, but when it is connected to the pc system.. then it shows it's bad performance and i'd say very bad !!! though, it is 52x drive and the company claims that it has faster access time.... but actually, it is a guy with competition less than 32x... :( one major draw back of this drive is it's tray's bad in n out behaviour......... it comes outwards and inwards very ...
...spring of the back supporting tray... and in some cases... it actually did it.... when a friend of mine told me about the broken plastic parts inside the drive due to the fast going tray inwards...... second one is that it often does't read cds even the new ones... i don't know why a new cd rom drive did't read mine cds and also new ones when i tried to install different softwares...... now come to the main part that is of course LENSE... :) ... ... Ahh, i have a very mixed opinion on this product. This drive came pre installed on my desktop and was very faithful to me! It always worked and got the job done very well when i needed it! It burnt DVD's with ease and CD's even quicker! However i had one fateful day when i had to recover my PC and completely reset it! I re-installed all the drivers for all of my hardware and everything worked except... Lite-On SOHW-832S DVD/RW Combo drive i tried ...
...but it wasn't!!! It didn't recognise when a DVD or a CD was inserted and it would no longer burn! I uninstalled it and re-installed it countless times but nope! Nothing worked, so now my main desktop computer is without a CD Writing drive! I do not wish to put others off buying it though as when it worked it was very good! I'm sure mine is just a one off! ... Read review
