Noisy but cheap
Review of Samsung SW 216 by nosferatu1001

Advantages: Price, Speed
Disadvantages: Sound Level

...decided to go for the samsung - after alll, a drive is a drive, right? However, this has to be the noisiest drive io have ever come across. I mean, seriously noisy. It also doesn't seem particularly well made - the sprung loaded tray seems particularly flimsy - and is not at all attracrive. However the last is something in commone with most drives! However, outwighing all that it is still very cheap - and for the price, fast. I would recommend it ... Read review

Review of Samsung SW 252F by Kingseany

Advantages: Cheap, quick, reliable, easy to use
Disadvantages: Bigger cache would improve speed even more

...little piece of kit from Samsung is "none of the above". Most of you should have heard of Samsung, they are a Korean company with more than 30 years of experience in the electronics industry - so how do their CD-RW drives fare? Read on. Those of you reading this will probably already be owners of some sort of backup device - and if not, why not? What price do you put on your precious memories (photographs, video etc), of which there may be hundreds, ...
...thing you'll need is media, Samsung doesn't include this. Prices though are staggeringly cheap, so choose yourself some 52x speed compatible disks, and you're away. Basic specs ************** Well, it'll read and write at 52x speed, which equates to 7800kb per second. On the first CDR devices, there was only a choice of one speed - 1x (150k/sec), which would take around 70 minutes or so to write a full disk. With the write speed of this drive it ... Read review

FAST CD-RW drive won't break your budget
Review of Samsung SW 248F by kamnet

Advantages: Very good "bang-for-buck"
Disadvantages: Basic software doesn't always work

...Halloween, I came across the Samsung SW-248F. For $44.97 the price couldn't be beaten. Even better, this is a 48x24x48 burner that lives up to the hype. The recommended system for this is a Pentium II 400MHz or higher. BAH, BAH I SAY! The target system for this beauty was my whitebox Intel 233MHz system running Win98SE. The end result? Well, I'm not getting 48x burns out of it, but I don't delude myself. What I *do* get is consistant 12x-18x burns. ...
...cache buffer has meant that I haven't had one coaster yet. The directions to install the hardware are fairly straight-forward, and mounting screws are included (but not mounting brackets). 5-10 minutes max will get you going. The slight downside to this package is the bundled Roxio Easy CD Creator 5 Basic and Direct CD. It works well, but, its basic. Good thing I've got a copy of CD Creator 5 Platinum, which is MUCH nicer. Overall I'm very satisfied ... Read review
