CD STORAGE MADE VERY VERY EASY BY HP
Review of HP CD-Writer Plus 8210e by fairypancakes

Advantages: fast,simple,easy,good price
Disadvantages: none so far

...I went for USB, my Hp CD Writer + 8930e, cost £190 of my savings, not a fortune compared to the standard internal drives. The installation was so easy, even a novice could understand it, the manual told you precisely what you have to do. Unpack the drive, plug in the power cable, connect to your PC, and switch it on. And then a message in Win98 is displayed, asking for your supplied installation disks. That is what really made this purchase a result ...
...supplied is Adaptec’s DirectCD and HP MyCD. MyCD simply asks you to put in your disk, asks you if you are making an audio CD, or a data CD, then you can simply drag and drop your files into the main window. Really it is that easy, you just press the create button, and in enough time to finish reading the paper, out pops your CD, completed. Now obviously there are many other software out there, giving more advanced options, but really if all ... Read review

I am glad my laptop didnt have a cd writer
Review of Sony CRX 10U by hondapants3

Advantages: User friendly plays various formats
Disadvantages: needs to have a faster write speed

...what you would expect of sony although the headphone do hurt my ears alittle As this is a couple of years old now there are far quicker external writers available. This machine will write at a speed of 4x so it can take around 20 minutes to wrtie a whole cd, but I dont sit and write cds all day so i would only consider this as a minor disadvantage I believe the price was £100, which, as far as external writers go is fairly expensive, but fter all ... Yamaha 4260 SCSI rewriter
Review of Yamaha CRW 4260T by BonzoBanana

Advantages: it looks nice
Disadvantages: its junk basically. Very fussy with regard CDRs

Yamaha was recommended to me as the best brand in CDwriters. So I ended up buying a 4260. This is a six speed read, four speed write and two speed rewrite drive. Pleasently styled. It was simple enough to configure but sadly the drive was not solid in operation. There seemed to be numerous problems at first configuring software for the drive. Even when it was successful it wasn't as the CDs it made weren't exactly good readers on other CDROM drives. ...
...product and wouldn't touch a Yamaha CDwriter again unless it was dirt cheap. Even though I'd only had the drive a little over a year I decided to replace it with a HP model. This drive was everything the Yamaha wasn't, hassle free, stable and made excellent CDs. I view Yamaha CD writers as junk and best avoided. ... Read review

Portable but a little slow
Review of HP CD-Writer 8230e by benben_uk

Advantages: External and can be easily moved between computers
Disadvantages: Low data transfer rates

...package consists of the drivers, HP MusicMatch Jukebox, HP CD-Labeller, Print Shop Multimedia Organiser and Sonic Foundry's Acid Music, I haven't ever felt the need to use any of this software except for the drivers. The drive is very quiet, it doesn't make the horrible clunky noises that some drives make. The only problem is the slow data transfer rates - it can only write at 4x which is very slow compared to internal CD writers. This is a property ... Read review

Freecom classic, classy item!
Review of Freecom Classic CD-RW drive by philbob76

Advantages: Easy to use software, simple to install, works with macs and pc's
Disadvantages: Looks a bit dated with newer styles of computer

This CD-RW is really handy for having around if your computer doesnt have an inbuilt CD-RW or yours is broken. The kind of disks it'll write are: Hybrid data disks (Mac and PC compatible) Singular Mac disks Extended Hybrid disks Extended Mac disks Audio Cd's Will copy from another selected drive and enhanced formats such as MP3 disks It can write at fast speeds, up to 42x which is handy if you've invested in some high quality high-speed ...
...even record on those cheaper disks that some machines dont like to use. As well as copy disks, it also erases CDRW's and using quick erase will do it in seconds. The software (Roxio Toast) is easy to use, and easy to install. On both pc and mac, u can plug the drive into a USB slot and then put in the CD, follow the install wizzard, and then you're ready to go! Its as simple as that. Pop in a disk, select the kind you want, and you're away. And ... Read review
