So what is 'Driving Over lemons'? For me it is the most refreshingly layedback biography I have ever read. It is an insight into an ongoing story of two people, Chris and Ana who want to sell up and move abroad(SPAIN) and a humourous account of how they do it and what follows.

Andalucia. Just don't be squeamish about driving over lemons. Chris Stewart, skilled sheep-shearer and sometime Genesis drummer, took one look at the Alpujarrás, the foothills of the Sierra Nevada, and decided that's where he wanted to be. This is the story of his adventures coming to terms with the terrain, the lifestyle and, of course, the locals, who possess all the rugged, homespun charm you'd expect. Stewart soon discovers all the hidden foibles of his bargain purchase, and spends the following year (rendered here in detail) installing the little luxuries of life like, say, water. However, just when you're worrying that all this might degenerate into a rose-tinted Englishman-finds-nature idyll, Chris's wife enters the fray. Nonsense-free, straight-talking and relentlessly unsentimental, Ada should be a required resource for all travel writers. Ada gets bored with the fake machismo of pig-killing, Ada sees through the selfless "help" of the natives, Ada calls a peasant a peasant. With her on board, Stewart has the perfect counterbalance to his declared optimism, and Driving over Lemons becomes a loving but clear-sighted encomium, economically and wittily written, to a wonderful part of the world. --Alan Stewart
Advantages: You will be laughing all the way through Disadvantages: You dont want it to end
I came across this book quite by accident while trying to replenish my stock of English books here in Germany. I was first drawn to it by the cover, then reading the name got very curious indeed. Yes I have to admit that on reading the back cover I was won over by the fact that Chris was infact the ex drummer of Genisis, having retired at the ripe old age of 17.

We are first introduced to Chris, who, armed with their savings is chauffeuring one fiesty Georgina from property to property in the hope of buying. Her role we find out is to act as a 'go between estate agent'. Realistically she is only a 'normal' head strong expatriot, who has assumed the role of ...

Advantages: Wonderful writing, beautiful feel good book Disadvantages: Do we believe him?
OK, time to open up the where are they now file....
Chris Stewart got his big break in the late 1960s when he ws invited to join the rock band Genesis. Peter Gabriel was the band's first drummer but he decided that he wanted to concentrate on the vocals and so Chris Stewart was offered the opportunity. His stint was short-lived, however - only a matter of a few months and when it was suggested he was surplus to requirements, Chris followed his parents ... ...might think that perhaps he was a little hasty...not only have Genesis been one of the biggest rock bands in the world, but their individual members have all gone on to enjoy huge solo success.
Reading "Driving Over Lemons", though, I shouldn't think Chris Stewart has any regrets about giving up the fickle world of rock stardom at the tender age of seventeen. Chris's life is now that of a farmer in one of the most picturesque spots in Europe, high ...
