Tama Rockstar
Review of DW Tama Rockstar by
drummerer
Advantages: Intermediate kit, not 2 pricy
Disadvantages: mounting system can bend hoops
...this was doin in the dw section but ohwell. Good kit overall but has bin updated. Usually found with drums and hardware for about £400-£500 so not over the top on price. Triple flange hoops with star cast mounting system that fits to the rims, not the tension rods. This can be bad on the bigger drums or for heavy hitters because they can bend the rims a bit. Some ok finnishes but not great. Can get rock or fusion sizes. The shells are madeout of ... ...the right heads.
The hardware that it comes with is very very sturdy and will last for ages as usuall with tama. The bad things are that you can get a rockstar custom for about £50- £100 more wjhich is worth it because you get wood bass drum hoops and better finnishes. Although, the whole series has been updated to superstar, which includes better rims, shells, mounting system and finnishes for around he same price. with this in mind, i would definitly ...

Yamaha Maple Custom Absolute Drum Kit
Review of Yamaha Maple Custom Absolute Drumkit by
jimmy58
Advantages: Design, fit, finish & sound excellent!
Disadvantages: New lugs take a little getting used to.
I bought my new Yamaha kit from Roli Garcia in Laredo, Texas. He's been my drum dealer now for about 6 years and offers great service before, during and after the sale. I first highly recommend you check him out, no matter what part of the country you are in. He's on ebay as "drumroom". Now on to the drums....NOUVEAU
My first choice through Roli was a DW Collectors series kit in a wrap finish. He told me when I went to plunk down the deposit that ... ...go check out the newest Yamaha kit I could find at my local drum shop and do some comparisons -vs- the Collector Series from DW.
Price wise there is no real comparison with the Yamaha Maple Custom Absolute Nouveau kit in the same sizes coming in at about 30% less retail than the DW's. Yamaha definitely wins in this column. Quality of fit, finish, hardware and looks is about even with the DW wraps not as elegant as the Yamaha lacquers. But who would ...

Drums that Sing, the Sonor 3007!
Review of Sonor Force 2001 and 3001 Drumkit by
Melvyninja
Advantages: Lovely Finishes, Brilliant Manufacture, Sturdy Hardware
Disadvantages: Stock drum heads, but easily swapped for new ones!
I purchased a Sonor kit 3007 shortly after christmas and its stood upto countless gigs, and even 2 recording sessions! The 3000 series of drums (3001 ~ 3007) have not much difference, except Lugs and Finishes mainly. My 3007 was purchased in sizes 8",10",12",14",16",20" with a 12" snare drum (not sonor, Mapex Black Panther) The construction of the wood is immaculate and the finish is as well! Hardware is very sturdy, im a big fan of the sonor 200 ... ...9 stands of either 200 or 400 make! The pedal is very sturdy, i replaced it with my Gibraltar Double Pedal. The stock drum heads are as standard, tuned well they pricked ears up, but not as well as my catchphrase Evans G2 over Hydraulic Black's. After reheading and retuning (i tune mine over a large spectrum so i can get a great wash of colour from my kit) this baby SANG! Even my bandmembers (who dont really care how my kit sounds so long as it keeps ...

V-Series
Review of Mapex Venus Plus Drumkit by
Arbobug
Advantages: Great sound, very nice looking
Disadvantages: Can be a little too quiet for recording or live gig purposes.
I've had my Mapex V Series drumkit for abou three years now and I'm still very happy with it! I heard the actual kit is designed to be more of a fusion kit that can't really be relied on for playing live gigs but I've played many a gig with it and it's one of my favourite kits to use.

The Mapex Venus drumkit comes in a wide range of colours. Mine is Midnight Blue, which suits the drumkit very well. It's a very shiny ... ...Drumheads
-----------------
The Mapex drumheads might be a little frustrating to some people, as you really need to tune them quite well. The slightest turn of the drum key can put these drums far too high pitched, and when you try to tune them lower, you don't get a note. When they are tuned well however, the Mapex drumheads aren't all that bad. The snare head is fine, and the toms can sounds quite melodic, or if you don't want them too, then ...
