A couple of weeks ago I decided to treat myself to a couple of Dryer Balls. I've seen them many times before and have read about them, but always wondered whether or not they would work. I was in my local Poundland and I saw them for...would you believe!....£1, well as I like a bargain, I couldn't resist.
A Bit About Dryer Balls
Dryer balls are made from PVC plastic, which is able to withstand extremely hot temperatures and will not melt. You get 2 balls in the packet. They are approximately 3" in diameter and are covered in little nodules. You simply put the balls into the dryer with the clothes and start the drying cycle. The balls are believed to reduce static build up during the drying process, help to reduce the drying time, make your clothes softer and also reduce the amount of ironing needed. Dryer balls claim to replace the need to use a softener during washing.
Dryer Balls tumble around with your clothing as it is drying, they lift and separate the clothes as they dry thus reduce the static build up and the little nodules on the balls massage the fibres of your clothing making them softer and fluffier.
My Findings
When I first opened the Dyer Balls and took them from the packet I was really quite surprised at how hard and solid they felt, I had imagined them to be soft, this made me very nervous at the thought of putting them in the dryer with my washing, I thought I might be opening up the dryer to find my washing all ripped up! Nevertheless I was intrigued to find out what these balls could do for my washing, so the first time I used them I decided to put them in with 3 pairs of jeans. Denim jeans I thought would stand up better to the dryer balls! Usually 3 pairs of jeans would take about 1 hour to dry in my dryer and they usually come out very creased......so what happened to them when they were dried accompanied by the dryer balls??
Well the jeans came out perfectly intact, the balls were actually quite soft when they first came out of the tumble dryer, but soon hardened up again. The jeans were dry after only 40 minutes, which I was very impressed with and they definitely weren't quite as creased, although did still need a run over with the iron. Next I decided to test the balls out on my towels. This time I was even more impressed. Again the drying time was cut by about 20 minutes and my towels came out beautifully soft and fluffy. I had to do another wash and dry, this time t-shirts! And yet again super results with the drying time reduced and soft fluffy clothing needing only minimal ironing.
All in all I was very impressed with the performance of my new Dryer Balls. I had been very sceptical at the beginning but the results proved to me that they do what they say they!! I will definitely be continuing to use these.
They can be bought in various shops - Poundland, Woolworths, Lakeland etc with a variety of rpices ranging from £1 - £10.
