1997 DR 350 SEW Electric start
Advantages: All round good bike. Disadvantages: slow on the road, But can be fixed
I aquired my dr350 from my uncle at a discount price so im not sure what they would normally fetch.
The bike is a well made bit of kit and will definately be around for years to come.
On the road the bike feels a bit slow but this can be resolved with the addition a a big bore kit avalible from such places as http://www.dirtbikestore.com. The kits are avalible in 385 410 and 430, other cc's are avalible but they are the main ones.
Parts a easly ... ...market parts is quite good.
I would reccomend getting the frame power coated as it will improve looks and stop the wear on the frame.
Make sure you block off all bolt holes with little corks or silicon and make sure you cover all holes going into the oil tank otherwise you will find yourself washing it out with parrafin several times and buying yourself a tap and die set to clean the thread in all the holes.
Offroad the bike is great fast or slow. ...

Get off road
Advantages: Light,Electric start, dual sport. Disadvantages: none.
...the two and purchase a Suzuki DR-Z 400s, Suzuki’s new Dual sport 4-stroke.
I have now had this for two weeks and must say what a pleasure it is to ride, both off and on the road. It is not to heavy at approx. 140kgs with a tank full of fuel. Which means I can still throw it around a bit, and pick it up with ease should I happen to put it down, which I do occasionally, and even though I have put this bike down a few times. I have yet to do ... ...durable.
Now for some technical bits. The engine is a single cylinder 4 stroke that is liquid cooled. It is started via an electric starter, so no more kick starting and decompression levers here.
It has a five speed box which typically of all 4-strokes has a good amount of power and torque, which combined with the lightness of this bike makes it exceptionally nimble for a large enduro.
Front suspension is by a telescopic oil damped coil spring.

The best street legal enduro
Advantages: Flexibility, power, weight. Disadvantages: Suspension
Suzukis DR350 has long been held in high esteem by those that ride it. Recently surpased by the DR400 the DR350 remains an economical mount. The four-stroke engine provides around 30bhp to a light maneuvarable chassis provide with ample braking in the front and rear discs. The SE version has an electric start, the original had a kick which could be difficult to use when the engine was hot, but the decompresser helped. Petrol consumption is good with ... ...from Acerbis are available.
On the road the bike is quick enough and can cruise at 70mph and tops out about 95mph. There are various tuning options available from new shock links (Kouba) to a bigger bored engine (up to 425cc). Most riders will agree that its best to work on the suspension rather than the engine. The bike is well kitted out for the UK roads with full lights, indicators, dash and horn.
Offroad the bike is pretty nimble, but proper ...

A good compromise
Advantages: Versatile Disadvantages: A compromise
The Suzuki DR350 is a good compromise for those who can't afford (or justify) an off-road and a road bike.
It's a bit slow and light on the road - and as it's so tall it gets blown about quite a lot. Passing lorries on the motorway can get interesting to the point of being frightening. I've ridden mine from Bristol to Skye via Ireland, as well as a 13-mile daily commute, and it is OK for this sort of use, but not ideal.
Off the road, it is a bit ... ...for eight weeks (!!) while Suzuki UK got a part for the front brake. I was not impressed - you are warned off grey imports because all the spares have to come from Japan; I've got spares for my grey Bross in days.
When mine got stolen (they are a very high theft risk apparantly - if you get one, keep it locked up out of sight) I bought a proper road bike (Bros 650) which is so much more fun on the road, and feels much safer there. I still get pangs ...
