With an insurance payout burning a hole in my pocket following a fire no expense was to be spared when it came to replacing the appliances ruined by fire. We paid £130 for the Dualit 40354 from Comet because it fitted in perfectly with our new kitchen and had 4 individual slots allowing the toasting of 8 small pieces of bread at once.
The picture here on Ciao is identical to our model, looking beautiful in chrome, however the 40354 is available in several different shapes and styles, the ugliest in my opinion being the biege ceramic design. Compared with other toasters we have had over the years the 40354 is huge at 22 centimetres high, 21 centimetres wide and 36 centimetres in depth. It is massive but just looks amazingly cool. I just couldn't picture our kitchen now without the toaster dominating the work surface.
As far as gadgets and super features go the 40354 is pretty poor, with just a browning adjustment that goes from making the bread crispy to flame grilled and charcoaled. The best option is the cook from frozen selection which toasts bread from frozen leaving the toast tasting like it had just been bake and toasted. Delicious. All of the toasting is done with no noise at all which is good and when the toast is ejected enough of the bread sticks out so you don't burn your fingers on the warm casing.
Cleaning is also simple and just a case of pulling the crumb tray out and emptying it into the bin before replacing. There is no need to hand it over the bin upside down and shaking until all the crumbs are removed.
Making toast with the 40354 is a breeze. It might be expensive but in my opinion it is worth every penny we spent on it as once we had found our perfect setting the toast it makes is always perfect and it doesn't require watching to make sure it doesn't incinerate the bread. Worth the money.
Advantages: does 4 slices Disadvantages: pain to clean
i got this as a wedding gift, i didnt realise how expensive it was! Although the modern design is good, and i really honestly think it looks very stylish and modern in our kitchen, at the end of the day it is a toaster, like most others it toasts your bread so i would not recommend spending over £100 on a toaster (unless your made of money). I like this toaster as it does both sides of the bread and you can do four slices of bread at a time, however ...
