I've had my Dualit kettle for around a year now, I purchased it to go along with my new Dualit toaster. I'd just bought a brand new Dualit toaster to replace my old one which was 12 years old and the elements had finally given out. I'd never had a Dualit kettle before I'd normally just bought cheaper kettles, and so this time I decided to treat myself to a Dualit one to match my toaster. I paid £75.00 for my kettle, which I have to admit is the most that I've ever spent on a kettle, and nearly gave my husband a coronary when he saw the price!
The kettle is a jug style kettle, rather than the traditional dome shaped kettle. It comes in 4 different colourways; red, black, cream, and canvas white. I have the cream version to match my cream Dualit toaster. I do have other cream kitchen appliances as well; I have cream KitchenAid products, and a cream Nespresso machine. All of the different brands versions of cream are slightly different, but I do think that they all complement each other perfectly and that they all work well together in my kitchen. The kettle is a cordless kettle which sits on a corded base. You can actually position the kettle anywhere within a 360 degree circle on the base. The base stores any excess cord underneath so that it's neat and tidy if you have the kettle positioned next to a plug socket and you don't want any excess cord on show. The base even has little rubber feet so that it's non slip on your work surface. The kettle is really quite lightweight, even when it's full it's not that heavy or cumbersome to hold and pour. It's really easy to keep clean as well; I just wipe it over with a damp cloth and then buff the stainless steel with a piece of kitchen roll, it takes me less than a minute.
The main body of the kettle is stainless steel, and the bottom half of the lid is stainless steel. The lid has the Dualit logo embossed onto both sides so that it is visible whichever way round you prefer your kettle to be. The cream accents on the kettle are the base, the bottom of the kettle, the handle and the top of the lid. The kettle has a large clear water gauge on each side of the kettle, meaning that whether you position it for a right handed or a left handed user you can still see the water gauge. The water gauge has cup level indicators rather than litres, it starts at the minimum 1 cup, and goes up to the maximum 6 cups (which is 1.5 litres). I quite like this as it takes the guesswork out of how much water to boil for the relevant number of cuppas. The kettle is a rapid boil kettle and it really does boil water very quickly, I have to say that it is certainly the quickest boiling kettle that I've ever had. It is really quiet when in use as well, I don't hear it half the time at all. It also has a boil dry cut out safety feature; it automatically switches off if you try to use it when the kettle is empty. This is really handy as I've lost count of the number of times that my husband will try and boil an empty kettle! The kettle has a removable and washable limescale filter, which is really handy for hard water areas, or for just descaling your kettle in general. You can even actually buy replacement limescale filters from Dualit.
The on/off switch is located near the base of the handle and is also in cream, and there's a light on each side of the base of the kettle which glows red once the kettle has been switched on, as with all kettles it automatically switches itself off once the water has boiled. The kettle has a hinged lid to lift to fill it, and you lift the lid with the cream plastic heatproof ball on the top. It has quite a large pouring spout so you could always fill the kettle through the spout without lifting the lid if you prefer, I always prefer to lift the lid and fill it this way as I don't like getting any water marks on the outside of my kettle from the spray of the tap near the spout.I've been really impressed with my Dualit kettle, it works well, it matches my Dualit toaster perfectly, and it also complements my other cream kitchen appliances perfectly. Yes it was very expensive for a kettle, but I can't actually fault it, and I've had no problems with it whatsoever. It looks very classy, and the build quality seems excellent, it certainly seems like it's built to last. If it's anything like the build quality of my previous Dualit toaster which lasted me 12 years then I certainly can't complain!!
