Duke Ellington - The Essential

Advantages: The fundamentals - Classic Big Band Style Jazz
Disadvantages: Sound quality was poor

Duke Ellington composed many interesting traditional jazz music suited at that time for big band style. It applies more tension chords as ever, bringing in modern jazz concepts and adapting them in a traditional ...
...the legends in the field of jazz and although many do not know him, they have heard of him. Many of his songs are taken today and played in small group bands, trios and quartets and improvised to meet modern expectations.

I personally enjoyed the tracks because I am a jazz fanatic. What I didn't enjoy was the poor recording quality which is probably inevitable during those times.

. Although one took a large deflection the other two were class, one brave opportunist goal and a second top draw take down and finish. Then to prove it was not a fluke, he went and scored another hat-trick in the league the following week. Known by fans as ‘DukeEllington he must surely be destined for bigger things, still young with a large amount of talent. Taken a while to break onto the scene and has had some trouble with injuries, but has still managed to move up to third in the goal scoring charts. 4. A real crowd favourite with Scunthorpe since arriving from West Ham two seasons ago, still young at 23 with a big future ahead. Good goal scorer from midfield and a class player on the ball can create goals as well as he can take ...

and more. OK, Indulgence mode again but I can?t help it. One of the great cds in my collection is Duke Ellington with Elle, a 3 CD set, classics like ?Take the A train?, 'Rockin' in rythm', ?Night in T?, etc. It?s more an experience than an album. I would like to be there, in Al Capone?s club, hitting the Hooch and listening to ?the Duke and his guests, a one night only special? ? I thank you. /( ** * **)\ That?s your lot, or rather my lot. I deliberately left out classical as the compositions are not unique to an artist, though it would have been nice to see Leonard Bernstein conduct or Jacqueline Dupree play. Coliseum, Tempest, The Beatles, Crowded House, Sam Brown, Sting, The Police, I could go on for a very long time, but I think you?ve suffered enough, thanks for the opportunity to share, be seeing you. ...

Advantages: He's just brilliant, sings fantastic songs, sings them fantastically well
Disadvantages: Young people think he's sad

and tone, it was still quite light and had no depth. After years of recording though, his voice deepened and gained an emotive edge that made his songs very moving. In 1953 he signed to the Capitol record label. World renowned as the leading label of jazz artists, Frank Sinatra made his most perfect and moving recordings with Capitol. They got Frank recording straight away, with the superb albums ‘Swing Easy’ and ‘Songs for Young Lovers’ being released in his first six months with the label. He spent many years with Capitol, where he recorded scores of albums, all of which were highly successful both commercially and critically. He recorded songs from the great American songbooks of Cole Porter, Irving Berlin, George & Ira Gershwin and Duke Ellington. He took classic songs and made them his own, singing them in ...
