People say that you should pursuit your life ambition and I have taken this into account as I am only 13 Ii have plenty of time to think in what I choose to do in the future. I eventually decided that I would like to be a C++ programmer and there's no better time to start learning than as a child so I went and bought this book……C++ for dummies by Stephen Randy Davis.

-*-*- What is C++?? -*-*-
Computers are stupid things they only do specific instructions in their own language (C#) it took us humans a long time to master that and so very clever people came up with the idea that they add a bit of human language into the computer language so they are both recognise each other and so came the language of C++
-*-*- What can you do with C++??? -*-*-
C++ gives you a lot of power over the computer you can change around programs (but you need to be a little bit of a hacker as well) C++ also gives you the power to write games and software programs but as with all languages C++ is a hard one to learn.
-*-*- This is where the book comes in… -*-*-
So now you know a little bit of the history of C++ and what it gives you the power to do but the main part is learning the language. As I am only young I can't exactly go into univercity and do a degree so I used the next best thing books. I had known about the dummies books for a long time as they helped me to lean BASIC and HTML (they are other languages) so I knew I wouldn't be disappointed although it was a bit expensive $32.00 (I was in America when I bought it.) that is equivalent to about 16 pound. The book is very thick and also comes with a C++ compiler (this allows you to build your own programs) which made things easier.
*-*-* The book itself *-*-*
As I looked at the book it states on the back that you can create your first C++ program by the end of the first chapter and it doesn't lie but it's not exactly a worldwide selling program that you will make millions out of the program shows you how to convert temperature Celsius to farenheight but as you read on it gets more involved. The author has also gone a bit off track I will explain what I mean…. At the front of the book it explains itself like dummies for example he says that "to read this book you read the page then turn over like any other book…" okay now that is for dummies but as he continues writing he forgets that he is writing to dummies and goes into more complicated words like MS-DOS a lot of people don't know what DOS is….
*-*-* Does the book work? *-*-*
All in all I would say yes the book does work because it does show you the basics of C++ and it shows you key things you need to get going but if you are going to buy this book bear in mind it does not teach you how to create a game or program that will make you millions and you will retire at the age of 21. The most difficult thing it shows how to make is an accountant program. *-*-* Conclusion *-*-*
I think this is a great book if you just want the basics and then buy another book with the more advanced stuff. This book is also good because it gives you examples of programs and what each line, string is used for it also helps because there are little cartoons that help you relax I say relax I mean more comfortable as in you don't have to keep working if you know what I mean……. But for the money it is a great buy and I recommend it.
Advantages: once read, you're no longer a dummy Disadvantages: very ugly on your bookshelf
...for any inaccuracies regarding the Dummy's book in itself, as it may not be the same across the Channel (but the success of this collection is worldwide, so I suspect it IS the same).
I also apologize for any misspelling, mistyping, syntax errors and other offensive linguistic mistakes I could make in my translation process, please, keep in mind that I wasn't born speaking English (well … you weren't either, lol), I'm just giving it a try, for fun.
... ...of the bookstore, the whole Dummy's collection is peacefully sleeping on the shelf, unaware that one of them is about to fall prey to … well, a dummy *g *.
All I had to do, was localise the one I needed: "Windows XP for dummies"? Nah I'm not that much of a dummy. "Internet for dummies"? Naah I'm an internet goddess, see? It only took me three years of surfing to discover Ciao * g*. "Photoshop 7 for dummies"? Naaah I'm still too much of a dummy for ...

Advantages: no technical jargon Disadvantages: there is none
I have just bought a bible! well a computer book bible, that is! this is the life saving manual i need, especially for people like me, who have only recently purchased a computer, and need the help of my computer whizz friend to help me to turn the thing on!
this book by Andy Rathbone, who has written many best sellers for pc's, has everything you need to know about getting to know your windows 98 package, how to start windows 98,change screen savers, and ... ...to use files, how to cut and paste, and find out what the heck all those icons mean on the control panel, and if you touch them is the computer going to blow up!!!
Although this book caters largely for the begginer, it also is very helpfull for the more advanced, as the way this book is set out, it has icons near each 'explaining', paragraph, to say wether you really need to know this information, or if your only going to really know how to do this ...

...etc. Thanks mainly to the Dummy's series on each language.
My friend is a computer engineer he told me about these book series. He told me that even at beginning be also was reading these books. These books are very easy to read and understand what has been written. They take a simple approach. I was very much pleased with thier language and the contents. Then after I read these series, I then look for a good and higher level book on the subject. ...

Advantages: very easy to understand Disadvantages:
PCs for dummies is one of the books I bought from the ?dummies? range. Before this, I had never used a computer before and this helped me to learn a lot. Even my mom who works with a computer every day found it helpful. It starts you off with the most basic stuff and then adds in more detailed things. It explains each term in a way in which a small child could understand. It is for anyone who is embarrassed about not being with technology. It is a very helpful book and it leads to many other interesting books such as Word for dummies. I give it a 10/10 because of its simplicity. ...
Advantages: Great information, fun Disadvantages: not all diagrams are in colour
As part of my Speech and Language Sciences course I have to do anatomy and physiology. Both aspects are quite hard so I thought I would buy this book to help with some of the concepts. This book is obviously not written specifically for SLT students so some of the information is not necessary to me but some parts are and I do like this book.
The For Dummies series offer a range of books as "A reference for the Rest of Us!" written in clear English so that anyone can read them and gain knowledge about their chosen subject.
The book is paperback and is 360 pages long. The cover is black and yellow (like all the For Dummiesrange) with an image of part of a human body, illustrating the muscles. The first page of the book is perforated, as it is a cheat sheet. This page is double sided and has some basic concepts that you should ...
Advantages: Interesting, easy to use, full of links. Disadvantages: American, I knew some parts already.

-Who is This Book For?-
This is NOT for people with absolutely no experience of the internet and creating web pages/sites. The introduction explains that you need to be able to ?put together something that opens in a web browser and to upload it to your website?.
However, this book is equally NOT for expert web designers. I found it pitched pretty well at my level- I ...
