I have just bought a bible! well a computer book bible, that is! this is the life saving manual i need, especially for people like me, who have only recently purchased a computer, and need the help of my computer whizz friend to help me to turn the thing on!
this book by Andy Rathbone, who has written many best sellers for pc's, has everything you need to know about getting to know your windows 98 package, how to start windows 98,change screen savers, and how to use your desk top. Find out how to use files, how to cut and paste, and find out what the heck all those icons mean on the control panel, and if you touch them is the computer going to blow up!!!
Although this book caters largely for the begginer, it also is very helpfull for the more advanced, as the way this book is set out, it has icons near each 'explaining', paragraph, to say wether you really need to know this information, or if your only going to really know how to do this when your so well advanced that your going to start writing your own programs, along time ahead for me yet i'm afraid!!
what i also like about this book is that it has a special section especially for when something goes wrong for example: 1. if it crashes 2. if it says 'you have performed an illeagal operation 3.if everything gets wiped etc
There is so much more to this book, so if you need help when you havent got a whizz kid friend to get you out of trouble, buy this, it will definately save you from throwing your pc out the window!!
I am also a huge fan of the Dummies books for the MS operating systems. I use them to get up to date very fast with all that is new in various operating systems. Very intersting reading a well written op from a non-computer person (well prior to him getting the book anyway)
