I have been a member of the society for more years than I care to remember. In that time I have had a variety of saving products and have always found the staff to be very efficient and customer focused. A criticism that can be levelled at some banks and building societies is that older accounts which have unattractive interest rates have just been left. In my experience the staff have been quick to point this out and steer me in the right direction. Advantages: local branches and getting to speak to that branch on the telephone Disadvantages: only available in scotland although do provide telephone banking
...i popped into my local dunfermline branch.
i was greeted with very friendly staff, given an appointment with their account opening person(she had a title but i cant remember what it was) within 10 minutes of me entering the building, i had a cup of tea, some friendly chat and advice on the right account for me, with no pressure for extra sales i might add!
i wish the bigger banks were as friendly and helpful as this and it was nice not to get hassled ... ...i've been into the branch regularly since opening the account (my wages go in their) and its been consistantly friendly with no pressure to take out additional services with them to such an extent that when i asked them to help me with an account for savings for my pension, they organised me a free appointment wiht their financial adviser and ive now got that sorted out as well.
all round i have to say the service has been excellent. ...

...walked away. I found Dunfermline B S on a price comparison web site and gave them a ring. What a difference! The contact who spoke to me was efficient and helpful and very soon arranged to get the transfer forms to me.
I really could not have asked for more and the interest rate was great as well.
It really is time some of the fat cats in the financial sector woke up and started to give some service. ...

Small, unknown BS with hardly any attractive accounts.
A real mutual BS, run for the benifit of it's members. It does try to improve accounts, whilst accepting a high risk mortgage holder when others would (*)
