Advantages: No springs to wear out and poke through Disadvantages: light so can move when you're fitting sheet
We had been looking for a new bed for ages and hadn't found anything that was soft enough to be comfortable yet offered enough support for us. My partner suffers from back and neck pains so support with comfort was important. We had bad experiences with even expensive sprung mattresses wearing out quickly and so weren't keen on getting even a top of the range sprung mattress. When we found a Dunlopillo stockist and tried out their range we were delighted. They offer a range from 100% latex (most expensive) to I think 25% latex 75% dunlopreme foam (cheapest) in various firmness and base options (sprung slat, sprung edge and platform). The Flamenco is a 50% Latex 50% Dunlopreme foam matress and we had the platform base as the matress felt firmer and so suited us better. Since buying it we wake up feeling as if we have had a sound ...
Advantages: Cooling effect, help you sleep better Disadvantages: fairly expensive (but a one-off cost if you take care of it), faint plastic-y smell
involved).
Whilst browsing the website it became apparent that there is not just one type of Chillow available - you can buy the original Chillow, the mini Chillow, and the new Chillow Plus! I bought the Chillow Plus, for reasons I'll go into below.
The Original Chillow - measures 52cm across x 34.5cm down x 2cm thick. The original Chillow is cool on one side, so is perfect for resting on your pillow at night (or even inside your pillowcase if you prefer). The other side is flocked, which I believe is to make sure it doesn't slip about on your pillow.
The mini-chillow - measures 35cm x 25cm x 2cm. This isn't designed to be used for sleeping on as it isn't big enough, but I believe it could be used when travelling, perhaps on a plane or in a car.
The Chillow Plus - has the same measurements as the original Chillow, but the difference ...
Advantages: Easy to fit. Well made. Very comfortable. Disadvantages: Aesthetically uninspiring
to say the least. We tried a number of pillows and blankets, but she was such a fidget pot, they invariably worked loose or were thrown off.
THE ?COSYSNOOZE?
The solution presented itself on a trip to Mothercare where we happened across the ?Cosysnooze? seat belt pillow. It is a tubular white pillow about a foot long, which is covered by a separate soft velvet-like dark grey nylon cover trimmed in black. The pillow fits loosely inside the cover, and the two flaps, each edged along their whole length with black Velcro, allow you to attach the pillow securely in place over the seat belt. The child can then fall asleep on it without chafing and no danger of dislodging it.
CARE
The cover is easily removable for machine washing (the label recommends 40°C, but we find the more economical 30°C setting equally effective ...
