Unless you buy clothes that are made from non-iron material, bag your stuff up and send it out to the ironing ladies, lay it carefully under your mattress or simply wear it creased with the ‘who cares’ attitude, you will undoubtedly have to endure the bore chore of ironing a few things yourself… and for this you will indeed require an iron.

Now for me irons are pretty much like hoovers, kettles and toasters. I’ve bought expensive top of the range models in the past that have either blown up, worn out, or have been dropped leaving them fit only for the bin. So nowadays I tend to stick to the cheaper end of the spectrum and opt normally for the shops own brands knowing that they’re not only names you can trust but being cheap I don’t lose any sleep over it packing up or my wrecking it should I drop it.

I can’t exactly remember what happened to my last iron but when it did pop off to iron heaven my new addition came in the form of:

DURABRAND STEAM & SPRAY IRON

{cost & availability}

In a nutshell I paid a fiver for this model from Asda.

{packaging}

It comes in a blue box that fit’s the iron compactly inside. It has a picture of the iron on all sides and all details you need to know about it in print as well.

{what’s included}

Inside the box you will find the iron, instruction manual and water cup.

{the iron}

The iron itself is white with the water tank being obscured blue plastic.

{spec}

1200 watts
Stainless steel soleplate
Vertical steam
Burst of steam
Dry iron functions
Easy to fill water tank
2.5 metre cord length

{my opinion}

I’ve had this iron for 18 months now and touch wood (taps her head) other than a couple of stubborn moments where the iron seemed to temporarily go on strike (loose lead connection!) I’ve had no problems with it at all.

It’s a very lightweight model and so very easy to handle, unlike those more professional models that not only cost an arm and a leg but weigh a tonne and make it more of an arm work out than ironing session (why pay to join the sports centre when you can build muscles ironing?).

It eases around the clothes no problem and thankfully with the idiot proof heat settings I’ve yet to have the iron stick to my favourite item of clothing, or worse still, burn a hole in it.

It has quite a large water capacity which means you can fill it to the maximum and iron away for quite a while without the need to keep refilling. The water spray and steam functions are easy to use at a push of a button and great for those more stubborn creases avoiding the need for starch, and although I’d say the cable length is probably average it’s long enough to be able to set up your ironing board close enough to any TV so that you can take the edge off of the boring chore at hand **just practise caution and pay attention though, iron burns hurt and you can 9 times out of 10 guarantee they scar!**

I would highly recommend this iron to anybody on the look out for a new one as it’s definitely a bargain and just about the cheapest you will find so will suit any budget, especially the on the spot ‘must have’ one if your old one has just packed up and you’ve got a weeks worth of ironing piled up to get through.

There’s nothing really more I can say other than try it and see as it’s hard to get excited over such an item but you won’t be disappointed I’m sure… it irons end of, what more can you ask?
