Durex Play Massage 2 in 1 Lubricant

I've been intruiged by the growing number of sexual enhancers appearing in supermarkets, and found this less than discrete bottle of play lube sitting under the teething gel next to a disposable cockring, beneath the teething gels. Odd place to put them, but might be worth a play with. Into the trolley it went, my partner looking at me like I was mad, we'd stopped for teething gel.

I wouldn't call the packaging design classy or discrete but it isn't abhorrant, can't help but think that it does seem to be aimed at a younger age range. I agree that sex should be fun, enjoyable and free - but in a mature way.

So down to the nitty gritty. Upon squeezing out some of the lubricant, I was struck by how strongly it smelt. Almost like candy or milkshake, the smell was almost overpowering, not sickly but very very strong. The lubricant properties themselves were good at first, if a little thick and clingy.

He massaged me, and I have to say it was pleasant, but almost like having treacle rubbed all over you after a few minutes. Then just uncomfortable, too sticky. (I think the word sticky is going to become a repeated one in this review!). Ever the boy scout, he had a glass of water on hand, which, the terror that he is, he proceded to dribble onto my back. This helped, for a short while, but the massage was over soon afterwards - I like a massage as much as the next person, but this wasn't as good as his normal ones! Was it the lube? I wasn't sure.

When it came to time to play, I became uncomfortable very quickly, the lube was sticky and clinging, we had to reapply repeatedly at first, before realising that it was leaving a thick sticky residue that became almost like a jelly. With some water based lubes a little added water usually brings the lube back to life, my hubby, trying to make the best of it, decided that this was a good time to check out the taste.

His facial expression told me all I needed to know about the taste - he says its as overpowering as the smell, but doesn't taste anything like you would expect. The lube was revitalised for a very short period, maybe 5 minutes before I was very uncomfortable and thinking about developing a headache.

We gave up on the product quickly, which was unfortunate because I kind of like the smell, from a distance. Personally I found it quite uncomfortable when used on me, and when used between the two of us, it quickly made a great idea into a bad one.

We do use Durex condoms, I thought maybe the two would be compatible, but the lube made the condom sticky, and a little painful upon entry. This definately not the best experience I've ever had! What a let down from such a reputable company.

In overview, I would definately suggest saving this one for the shower, I think thats the only place that could support the watery requirements of the massage lubricant and keep it useful. I still quite like the smell though, I wonder if I should have put the rest of the bottle into my Glade Plugin?

Used twice, once more to be sure we weren't just having an off day - and then the rest of the bottle was binned.
