As some of you may have read from my 'Member Advice On Laparosocpy' review recently, you will know I have been through a few operations on my womanly bits. As a result of this, my gynaecologist has put me on an implant drug, which induces a temporary menopausal state in the body.
As well as the common symptoms of menopause such as hit flushes & insomnia, one symptom is also dryness down below. As one can imagine, this can cause problems for intercourse, no matter how turned on you are, sometimes a bit of extra help is needed.
I picked up a 10 pack of Durex 'Play' sachets in Superdrug for £2.99 on a buy one, get one free offer. We'd previously used sample of the normal 'Play' lubricant and found it very good, alas though, in Superdrug the original variety was out of stock and I think sometimes, a change is as good as a rest. The packet has 10 different sachets, 2 of which are the 'Tingle' variety.
The Durex 'Tingle' was the first sachet we used from the pack.
Opening the lurid green sachet was easy enough but a lot of the lubricant spilt out over Andy's hands, there was an overwhelming smell of mint, very much like a very strong toothpaste. Though this smell was not unpleasant, for something that is supposed to be for intimate use, it does seem to be a bit strange to be SO fragrant.
As many people would assume, because there are no instructions to the contrary on the sachet on the in-packet instructions, Andy & I assume one sachet was for one 'experience' and he duly applied the lubricant in equal measure to both of us. Going on it was quite cold as you would expect and it went on exceptionally smoothly. Again, at this stage, the only negative point was the smell.
The lubricant made penetration easy and the feeling was smooth and slightly tingly for both of us. The feeling was OK, it started off as quite nice and getting stronger over a few minutes.
After a few minutes Andy began complaining of a burning sensation on his bits, shortly followed but shrieks of pain rather than delight and Andrew running off the the bathroom to wash the offending lubricant off. He came back with bright red skin that continued down his legs, he told me it had become very tingle in a matter of seconds to the point where he felt he was being quite severely burnt in the nether regions.
I couldn't help but laugh, as you have to do in such situations! But the joke was on me as exactly the same thing started happening to me. I felt extremely uncomfortable as this tingling sensation became unbearable, before I could rush to our downstairs bathroom I had begun to feel the tingle begin to burn and not only was it on the outside, some was also on the inside too. I can tell you that this was one of the most agonising experiences I have ever had the misfortune to experience. The sensation was akin to having thousand tiny needles prickling the inside walls of my bits.
After vigorous cool washing in the area, the sensation died down after 20 minutes or so, shorter for Andy, he thought it took about 12-13 minutes for him to feel normal again. Like Andy, I also had a red rash where the lubricant had touched my skin. This rash took over an hour for both of us to return to normal colours!.
Both of us also noticed that this lubricant, although one would think would be water based, because it is made for use with condoms, this lubricant has a really oily feel after the initial application. This oily feel lasted well beyond washing the lubricant off. After all the messing about, we tried a small dab on a piece of paper and the oil that you could see compared to the normal, original variety of 'Play' was incredible. By the end of the day, a small fingertip amount had left an oil residue on almost 75% of the piece of A4 paper.
I am not sure whether this would actually be compatible with condoms because of the oil factor. In a way I would say yes because it is made by Durex, who also make condoms but on the other hand I'd say no because I wouldn't be 100% confident it was safe. Again, there is no guidance on the sachet or on the instructions. Personally I'd err on the side of caution and probably give this a miss in the sachet and look for the instructions on the bottle if I were desperate to use this again!!
Personally, I wouldn't recommend this product for use as a lubricant on the genital area, it might well be OK for use as a massage aid as Durex say you can use the sachets this way as well but for sex, it's a no no unless you fancy having your bits burnt! The oily feeling is a turn off as well and both of use felt, even though we had showered, we still felt oily and indeed both of us had oily hands until the evening.
As you can imagine, we both found the final, burning sensation very off putting to say the least, had the sensation stayed at a level as it was at first, this would actually probably be a very good addition to the bedroom, but I am not sure how many couples would fancy having a mutually intimate burning rather than a heightened sexual encounter!. The oily sensation was the final nail in the coffin for this lubricant, it was too oily, it wasn't even as if it made your skin soft, it just made for annoyance on both partners parts that it would wash off and left you feeling greasy. I'd also say that the sachets were overfilled as even though we lost quite a bit on opening, there as still a large amount left and I think this contributed to us maybe overdoing the lubricant because we thought 1 sachet = 1 'dose'.
The lubricant variety pack in theory is a good idea but as we found, there is only generic instructions and no warnings about whether particular varieties are not compatible with condoms, which, in the current sexual climate should be an essential, not an optional extra. We have not used any further sachets at the moment but it the pack there is also:
Durex Play Heat Durex Play Cherry Flavoured Lubricant Durex Play Pina Colada Flavoured Lubricant Durex Play Soothing with Aloe Vera
All in all, a huge disappointment given the initial success of the original variety. I would advise anyone if does want or need to use a lubricant to stick to original and probably the best, varieties and not to be too bothered with gimmicks! Not something for the faint hearted!
P.S You have my permission to laugh at our expense, if you can't laugh about it, what can you do?

...used too much. Although Durex reckon that this can make you tingly from top to toe, I wouldn’t recommend it for giving anything other than very intimate massage. On anything but the most sensitive areas it’s too sticky to allow decent massage and there isn’t any of the tingling effect. It’s not even that effective on nipples, although there I do have a slight increase in sensitivity when it’s used there. The increase in sensitivity during intercourse ... ...intense for both the man and the woman. I would also say this is definitely not for anal use, I’m pretty sure that it would be far too intense for that delicate area. This is supposed to be safe to use with condoms, but as I’m in a committed relationship (and trying for a baby) I can’t comment on how well it works with them. Once all the fun has finished it is necessary to wash this off, as I said it is sticky and can leave a residue on the skin, ...

...ex bought a packet of durex sensations (apart from the tingle all others get a 5 star rating from me, especially the scrummy cherry flavour) to try and spice up our sex life without the bondage.
Having had no problem with any other of the ones in the packet, no matter how much we used, we sort the same effect from this one. Also seeing as the heat one was a lovely tingle, we had the image of a very silky, smooth sensual tingle in mind.
How wrong ... ...foreplay is sometimes needed before sex, was used on my partner and myself before we put on the condom. Being a water based lube this was safe to do so, and most importantly this is not a contraceptive method so you WILL need protection.

Advantages: Quite tingly, safe to use with condoms, good lubrication Disadvantages: Quite an overpowering minty smell.
Durex Play Tingle comes in a 50ml bottle with a pump, and costs around £4.00 As mentioned in my previous review of Durex Play Heat, I got this in the Durex Play Sensations variety pack at first. The variety pack is the same price but contains 10 sachets of different types of lubricant. The product claims
"New Durex Play Tingle lubricant creates a tingling sensation wherever you put it.
This long lasting silky lube can be used all over the body, ... ...as the warming sensation from Durex Play Heat.
The lubricant is slightly greasy and a little sticky on your hands but seems to do the job well. The tingling sensation takes a little longer to start than with Heat but is quite pleasurable without being too intense.
As with Durex Play Heat - this lubricant is safe for use with condoms and toys, but it does not contain spermicide so is not a contraceptive. Again, neither of us experienced any unwanted ...
