I participated in using Durex condoms for many years. Even now they still do coloured condoms called Durex Select. I remember very well how the green ones used to make me itch terribly and the yellow ones used to make me laugh when placed on my partner as it reminded me of a yucky banana. Way back in the olden days Condoms were made of animals intestines. Yuck how horrible is that piece of information. It is said in folklore that a Dr Condom who worked for King Charles invented them. The Japanese were said to have used ones made from tortoise shell or from Leather. Thankfully now they are transparent and microscopically thin and most are made from latex. BigBaz reckons when he was at sea the one he used were like inner tubes and called Volcanic Eruptions. Thanks for sharing that with us Barry it must have been like having a wash with your socks on.

The black ones did not fulfil my expectations at all if you know what I mean Ladies. Not really the ideal recipe for a night of passion.
Even in the 1970's it was an embarrassing experience to purchase condoms. They were always kept under the counter and you were always made to feel promiscuous when asking for them. I think the Durex machines in pubs and garages were the most popular way to buy them at the time. If you were male you tended to have many haircuts as they were always sold in a barbershop. You've all heard the saying "A little something else Sir. "At the time Durex was the most popular brand in the UK and I am sure this is because the name was really quick to say. Radio Luxembourg used to play a condom advert after about every third song so the name Durex tended to stick in your head.
Specialist condoms like ribbed and French ticklers had to be purchased by mail order or in seedy sex shops. There are many different slang terms for condoms and I am sure around the UK different names are used. BigBaz tends to call them blobs in his part of the world. Some names you may recognise are Rubber Johnny, Wet suits, Love skins and slips of sin. I will add more when you leave your comments for your favourite name for them.
With the onset of the HIV epidemic in the 1980's condoms came out from under the counter. All of a sudden they had their own display sections and buying them was no longer an embarrassment. In fact you could now hold your head up high and were thought of as sensible rather than a slut. With STD and HIV still a huge problem you would be an utter fool today if you considered non-monogamous sex without using a condom. If you want to know how to put one on and how to use a condom then visit the website http://www.durex.com/index.html
Durex condoms were always given away at all family planning clinics as they were thought to be 98% reliable a for pregnancy protection if used correctly. A good method of contraception if it works. I was one of the 2% left over who happened to get pregnant whilst using Durex. I was on the pill and forgot to take it one night. Not wanting any more children we did the sensible thing and used a condom to make doubly sure I didn't get pregnant. Well we must have bonked with extra vigour that night as when he pulled it out I said Where's the F***ing end gone. We hunted round the bed but couldn't find it and realised the condom had split whilst inside me. No problem I was on the pill and had used a condom there was no way I would get pregnant. Nine months later my son was born. YES condoms can and do break. The most common causes are too-vigorous intercourse and poor storage. Well excuse me but when you are in the throes of passion, sex is vigorous. Or is that just me Lol?
Only ever use a condom once and dispose of it properly. This does not mean throwing it down the toilet as if you have sensitive plumbing you can block it. An embarrassing and costly procedure to get it unblocked. The basic condom fits all sizes so if you have a small penis please don't think you are using a smaller condom and it won't affect the plumbing. It will.
The storage of a condom is very important and you should only keep them in your wallet or purse for a few days. Handle them with care as they can tear easily without you noticing.
NEVER use Vaseline or any other or any petroleum-based lubricant with latex or plastic condoms as it breaks down the condom very quickly. Instead use a water or silicone-based lubricant such as K-Y Jelly. STDs will be transmitted through plastic and skin condoms so don't use these types unless you are 100% sure STDs are not an issue
I would recommend Durex condoms for the protection of all sexually transmitted diseases or infections. They are still one of the most popular brands and they ensure each one of their products is thoroughly tested. So if you don't want to get genital warts, gonorrhoea, syphilis, HIV and many other nasty surprises then please do use a condom for all vaginal and anal sex. They are not a protection against scabies or pubic lice or so go and see your local clinic if you find any of the little critters has hopped into your pubes. Just don't tell me about them. A box of 12 Durex Select flavoured and coloured condoms will cost £9.99 at most chemists. Am I getting old as there is no way I would want to taste a condom?
I wonder if there are any statistics of only boys being conceived when the condoms break? Everyone I know or have heard of this happened to, including myself all went on to have boys even some of the members on the ciao site.
Thank you all for reading. I hope you enjoyed it and do please leave me your favourite nickname for the condom in the comments section. Fionaxx

...although a recent survey by Durex has shown that 30% of people in the western world still have unprotected sex on a regular basis, which is really rather frightening. Anyway, the point of this review is not to scare or worry you, it is to discuss the merits of the Durex Select flavoured condoms. Advantages: They are fun Disadvantages: Expensive, embarrassing , not very natural
I've got mixed feelings about "novelty" condoms, and these are no exception. For starters, these packs contain varying amounts of flavoured (either banana (yellow), nectarine (orange), strawberry (red), and mint (blue) condoms. I'm not a great fan of flavoured condoms, the taste (and smell) is rather unbearable at times, but these aren't too bad. With the exception of the banana which smalls musty and really manky. In contrast, the mint, strawberry, ... ...and "thick". What I don't like about them is their colour. It's rather, well, unnatural I find to see a blue object when you're expecting a more skin coloured experience, but that's my personal view. Other downpoints include the fact that they do tend to be rather thick, and as a result, not so sensitive for both parties, and also aren't spermicidically lubricated. Another concern for some people not lucky enough to be able to take the pill. All ...

...ones, just in case. The Durex range is a good place to start. Tried and tested by millions of people world wide, or so they say. Well if they‘re good enough for the world and it‘s partner, they‘re good enough for you.
But, it’s not quite that simple. Compare choosing a condom to buying a car. You’ve decided on the make you want, but what model are you after? What expectations do you have, how much mileage do you want ... ...a boy racer, then consider Durex Select.
Life in the fast lane as far as condoms are concerned, the funky red model has a selection of further choices. The traditional style (pack of 3) offers you an interior colour scheme of banana yellow, strawberry red, or minty green. Hypo-allergenic natural rubber latex, with a non-spermicidal lubricant finish. Wow, can’t get much better than that. (Well, if you can, there is a comment section.)
Fancy ...

Advantages: Well known brand, cheaper end of the range (£2.50ish for a 3 pack), protection against disease and pregnancy Disadvantages: Tricky to get on, prone to slipping
Pale pink colour, shaped for extra comfort. Durex extra safe are made from natural latex rubber, with spermicidal lubricant, effective in preventing against pregnancy and disease.
I wouldn’t recommend these. Compared to others (DurexSelect)
these are tricky to use. Very heavily lubricated, they are extremely slippery to hold and getting them in place is difficult.
A looser fit than others in the Durex range, although maybe more comfortable for the wearer, I really wasn’t too confident in them remaining in place, therefore sex was less pleasurable due to worry.

Advantages: Protection from disease and pregnancy, ribbed for extra pleasure Disadvantages: Ribs make no difference, possible reaction to latex
when choosing a condom, and it then aims to match you up with a condom meeting your requirements. If your emphasis is on fun, you’ll be pointed towards DurexSelect, and Durex Ribbed.
Durex Ribbed are coral coloured, straight walled, teat ended condoms with the addition of a section of ribbing which covers about half the length of the condom itself. Extra bands of latex are built in to a basic style condom to create a raised surface and offer enhanced pleasure.
So, what will you expect and what will you actually get? There’s quite a difference sadly. If you were to believe everything the manufacturers told you, you’d be forgiven for thinking these little packs of latex would add spice to your sex life by means of heightened pleasure. Wrong!
Quite frankly, I’ve seen more tread on a bald tyre and how anyone can ...

Advantages: the box feels nice! Disadvantages: like I said, it won't make up for lack of ability (no digs at my ex...)
"Ribbed for her pleasure-eeeeewwwwwww!!!" said Garth in Wayne's World. I admit the name is kind of tacky.
And like Ethak's (a very good friend of mine) opinion on Durexselect (read it!), I have to say: they get left in the box for ages and go out of date....or they get used by some immature, inexperienced male who has probably only just got past the stage of wearing them on his head, who wouldn't know one end of a woman from another.
I have to say the "extra sensation" from the ribbed-ness makes what could be a very medicore f*** slightly more exciting.
However, no condom could ever make up for total lack of ability on the male's part. So don't expect to make you into a love god in bed....
However, the best part has to be that the box is ribbed too- a nice finishing touch, I thought!
NB: Just so I don't offend any males ...
