The Dymo Omega Embosser does exactly what it says in the name. You feed the coloured strip on a reel in the back of the machine, press down the desired letters/spaces etc and hey presto you have a personalised embossed sticker. It very easy to use, and because it’s a manual label maker there are no batteries required, so you don’t have the hassle of replacing them.
The sticker that is embossed is really strong and durable. Once you stick it to something it lasts an extremely long time without fading and stays stuck to it. I haven’t yet found a surface it won’t stick to.
It is great tool for any business to own, no longer will there be any arguments over whose stapler it is. It’s not just for business use though. I’m a graphic design student and I’ve found this product endlessly useful in designs, labelling my books and portfolios and for writing titles. Also if you make an effort to press the trigger with uneven pressure, you can get some great effects, perfect for typography, and looks great when scanned in and adapted digitally.
There are three colours available with this edition of Dymo, classic black, blue and red. All of them create a white font when embossed. They are all really nice colours, but would be nice to have something a bit more exotic. Also they can be a bit pricey to buy the refills, but it is a quality product, so you do pay for what you are receiving. I bought the Dymo machine for £9.99, the refills were about £6.99 for a two pack.
The shape of the Dymo Omega is great; it fits perfectly into your hand. It’s very light and the trigger is easy to pull, so you don’t get strained if you’re writing a lot of labels. The wheel is also easy to turn, and the guide lines make it easy to see exactly which letter you are choosing to print, reducing the amount of mistakes you could make. It is also comfortable to hold as this Dymo has the additional feature of soft rubber coating the handle of the trigger.
The only real problem is that it can be annoying that there’s no correction button. If you select the wrong letter on a long label, then you are stuck and either have to accept the error or write the whole thing again. Another slight disadvantage is its size. It is quite an odd shape, and probably would fit in narrow drawers, but it can be stood up on a desk instead. But it’s definitely not something you can pop in a handbag or briefcase and carry with great ease. The last point against it I have to make, is if you don’t apply the same amount of pressure to the trigger every time you push it, the label can appear uneven.
I’d recommend this product to anyone that requires a label maker for office, home or just for fun. It’s easy to use, comfortable to hold and a well-designed product.
