Review of "Dynamite - Taio Cruz (Single)"
Yay! Red dot! ^^
I have a long commute to work that has been compounded recently by roadworks…just about everywhere. As such my boredom levels in the car, alone, rise quite quickly. While I do have CD’s of language learning, up to two hours a day in the car can be a bit much sometimes so I’ve started listening to the radio. And once again integrating myself into the music scene has provided me with a wealth of new artists that I’ve discovered I really like.I first heard “Dynamite” quite a while before it was released. I heard it on the way home and as soon as I reached my computer I searched for it on Amazon. I couldn’t find it. Confused I looked to Play.com and found it listed, so ordered it…then realised it was a pre-order. After a month long agonising wait, I was finally able to download the song.
During that month I was taunted by air play of the song, and even resorted to looking it up on YouTube just so I could hear it more. I was in love! Now I’ve had this song for ages on my iPod so I could listen while doing housework, and I’ve got to say my love for this song hasn’t dwindled at all!I didn’t realise at first, but I’d heard Taio Cruz before, with his song “Break Your Heart”, which I loved. His voice is amazingly smooth and really speaks to you. I could listen to his vocals for hours and not get tired! His voice is in the mid range and he doesn’t try to hit any high notes and sound stupid, and doesn’t use too much computerised distortion effects on his voice which often end up making songs sound silly if used too much.
The lyrics aren’t thought-provoking, and they use my hatred of repetitive words (e.g. “I came to dance, dance, dance, dance // I hit the floor ‘cos that’s my plan, plan, plan, plan”) but I can overlook it this once. The quality of the overall song makes up for the repetitive wording in the verses, and the chorus is fun to join in with. Just make sure nobody can hear you because I can almost guarantee guys won’t sound as good as Taio, and ladies as much as we’d love to duet with him, we’d just ruin the song! The song itself works on many levels. It’s something you could see yourself dancing to at a club, something you could see people singing back to at a concert and something that works very well coming from your speakers when stuck in a traffic jam at 5:45pm, in order to lighten your mood. And as I’ve discovered, something amazingly fun to sing along to while pushing a vacuum cleaner around the house!
I have seen the video to the song, which involves a lot of women working at what seems to be a garage wielding heavy machinery, and Taio walking through in shades and a leather jacket flanked by a couple of ladies. There’s also a section with a late night beach party where Taio is performing to party goers, with flares and a nice explosion. All in all quite a nice video, but not something that was amazingly thought through.Taio hasn’t had many singles, in fact the only other one I’d heard of was “Break Your Heart”, he seems to have had another couple (including a collaboration with Ke$ha) but they didn’t do very well in the charts, whereas “Dynamite” and “Break Your Heart” both stormed in to the number one spot. “Dynamite” is most certainly deserved of the top place in the charts, it’s a fantastic late summer song that I’ll be looking back on for a while to come.
So what are you waiting for?! Download this gem now! You can snap it up from Amazon for 89p and Play.com for 65p.It’s also included on his album The Rokstarr Collection (NOT his album Rokstarr – this earlier edition doesn’t have this song).
