...full. For you see Dyson vacuum cleaners don't wear bags, they have a transparent plastic bin instead to collect all of the nastiness. So no more bags to buy. I simply empty the bin when necessary. It's clean and easy to do so I mostly allow my male co-driver to enjoy this pleasure. Quite honestly when I think about my first time I can't believe how dirty I must have been - and that was without a few red wines.
This Dyson really does ... ...until the very nice James Dyson realised that bags clog, and thus reduce the machines suction, that things began to change. Now not even small itsy-bitsy pieces, as tiddly as 0.01 microns, can escape the Dyson - vacuums with bags just can't compete with this, well that's my opinion.
I'm happy to have said goodbye to the inefficient bag (must remember to get my co-driver's mother a birthday card) and hello to 100% suck, 100% of the ... more
Captain Kay speaking. Please stand well back, this machine is powerful. I'm fully trained and I've got the right equipment to handle this beauty. In the wrong hands it could be dangerous. Only the other day I heard from a friend, who had heard it from a friend's friend, that one guy ended up in hospital with a section of this equipment attached to a very important part of his anatomy. What many of the general public just don't seem to realise is that, once switched on, this is all about 100% suck, 100% of the time. Now that is something not to be messed with.
OK, we call this the DC01. Yes, there are newer machines but I kind of like these vintage models and, believe me, the one I have before me still performs very, very well. You may not be technically minded so I won't blow you with science. For now I'll just say that this is Dual Cyclone Technology and it does the trick for me every time.
As you can see it's an upright, standing proudly in a natty grey with yellow trim. Through the window at the front you'll soon be able to have a good look at this Dual Cyclone in action. I'll give you a run down later on what this all means but lets give you a test run. There's no need to be scared. I've done this many times before and have even trained a co-driver to perform on my behalf, when I don't feel like it - which is quite often.
Right at the top here is a yellow push button. This is the called the on/off switch. I've already plugged the cord into an electric socket. The plug has a 13 amp fuse which is the correct rating. As you'll gather my training has been very exacting and exhaustive.
Here we go, I'm about to push the on/off switch ... my goodness, can you feel the power? Don't worry though, in case you were concerned, it has special equipment so that it is suppressed against radio and TV interference. This is in accordance with EEC directive No. 82/499/EEC. I'm sure this will put your mind at rest.
Trust me, this machine is now in full sucking mode. If you want to alter the angle of the cleaning head, just press your foot on the front of it and tilt the machine backwards. It'll now slip saucily under low level objects. I'll run it over the carpet and you'll see the bits fly into the cleaner. See them whirling round and round through the window? An awesome sight. I'll switch it off for a moment though as I want to tell you something very important.
Now listen - household dust is made up of some very unpleasant bits and pieces including such things as pollen, viruses, dust mite faeces, chocolate digestive crumbs and pet hairs. Yuk! These can actually present a health hazard. I don't want to make you anxious but if you have a traditional vacuum cleaner, with a paper bag, it may well leave large quantities of this harmful dust lingering in your home month after month. This could spread to curtains and other furnishings as well as in the carpet. Not a very nice thought is it?
You know, I can still remember my very first time with the DC01. It was a sunny May day two years ago. I was a bit nervous but afterwards I just couldn't believe the amount of stuff deposited in the transparent cylinder. It was nearly full.
This Dyson really does clean well. It's all to do with centrifugal forces. The air containing the dust and dirt is accelerated inside the cyclones. This creates powerful G-forces which spin out the dust into the clear bin. There are actually two cyclones. Once the outer cyclone has dealt with the larger bits, the inner cyclone then goes on to remove minute particles. It does this by spinning the air at 924 mph - pretty impressive I think you'll agree - I very nearly took flight one day. There are also special electrostatic filters to deal with any remaining extra fine particles. Nothing escapes! Hope that wasn't too difficult to follow, but it had to be explained.
You can use the DC01 as you would any other vacuum cleaner, you know - push it around the carpet by the handle while it sucks away happily. My co-driver always does it in straight lines. I tend to be very flowing and less methodical.
I digress. This magical machine also has a 'Wand & Hose Assembly'. Surely there must be one of you out there that will say, "What's that then, Captain Kay?", or is the excitement already too much? I'm going to tell you anyway. Other vacuums would probably call it a set of tools. You click the handle off the vacuum and there is a squidgy, stretchy hose attached to it - on to which you can affix special tools. The suck is then all converted to the tools instead of the main body of the cleaner. Be careful how you use this, any strange ideas may be unsafe. If you usually vacuum naked, for instance, just remember that guy I told you about who ended up in hospital - seemingly he swears it was all an accident!
There are three standard tools supplied. They are: The Stair Tool (for your stairs), the Dusting Brush (for your dusting) and the Crevice Tool (for your ... well you know). The hose and Stair Tool will stretch right up to the top of a normal flight of stairs. I can't confirm this because I haven't any stairs. It does stretch the full length of my passage though.
I've told you about all that suck and how good the DC01 is, but are there any faults? Well a couple.
Sometimes the machine falls over on its back all by itself - crash! No idea why. I'm sure it's not my driving. It may have something to do with the cleaning head and plonking my foot too heavily on it - well you do when you get carried away, don't you?
Oh yes, and the cord, sometimes known as the cable by non experts, is long and sometimes a bit unwieldly. I've run over it a couple of times when in full flight - this is one of the things drivers should try to avoid. Suppose I shouldn't have admitted that but, when you've covered as many miles as I have, little accidents can happen. I try to be careful otherwise and never do any of the other dangerous moves such as vacuuming up water, lighted objects or any parts of my person.
Other than this I've had no problems driving my DC01.
If you think about it, vacuum cleaners were much of a muchness since their invention back in 1901. It wasn't until the very nice James Dyson realised that bags clog, and thus reduce the machines suction, that things began to change. Now not even small itsy-bitsy pieces, as tiddly as 0.01 microns, can escape the Dyson - vacuums with bags just can't compete with this, well that's my opinion.
I'm happy to have said goodbye to the inefficient bag (must remember to get my co-driver's mother a birthday card) and hello to 100% suck, 100% of the time. It also keeps my nostrils nice and clear. No, I don't vacuum them. But I do have a clean flat free of irritations since the DC01 came into my life - other than a particularly big one that is.
Oh, time to go I see, so this is Captain Kay logging off.
- Kay
P.S. Ahhh, that's better! It's nice to get out of this Captain's uniform. Not sure it's really appropriate, but my co-driver insists very, very short skirts and thongs are the norm for vacuuming. To be truthful, I don't think they suit him ...
...it. I myself have a Dyson DCO7 which is fantastic and what with 2 kids and 2 dogs I find myself hovering more than once a day at times. I bought the kids presents early this year as I wanted to make an attempt at being organised and I did not realise that they made the big version of the Dyson for kids.

The kids Dyson is a replica of the adult’s one yet there are many differences. It is supposed to be like the DCO7 ... ...I bought my sons Dyson from Argos for £16.99 and I believe it is also the same price at Toys R Us.
~~~~~Does it need batteries~~~~~~
O yes it does it needs 4 x C batteries which added an extra £5.49 on to the price of the hoover. Which I think is quite a lot. There is nothing more annoying to us parents as on Christmas day the kids open there presents from other people only to discover they do not come supplied with batteries and are unable to ...
...collected with force into the Dyson vacuum. If you think your carpet is clean then think again. I thought my carpet was spotless until I bought the bagless Dyson DC01. The truth is there is no comparison; it was time for my outdated vacuum cleaner to make room for my new Dyson model.
I bought my Dyson DC01 two years ago for around £240 – There are several Dyson models to choose from each having its unique features.
Unique features associated with ... ...* Motor Protection Filter
* Dyson accessories – Long tube, small brushes etc……
Hepa Filter
***********
The hepa filter is the biggest filter of the Dyson DC01 and has to be changed every twelve months – It is specially designed to filter out dust particles and bacteria from the air. The filter kills all harmful bacteria by filtering and retaining it – ideal for all those asthma and allergy sufferers. Motor Protection Filter
...the invention of the first Dyson Vacuum (DC01) James Dyson had a talent for creating new and innovative products. While he was studying at The Royal College Of Art in 1970 he invented the ‘Sea Truck’ it has sales to date of over $500 million. The first bagless cleaner was launched in 1991 in Japan and was seen as a status symbol. It was named ‘G-Force’ and retailed for around $2000, so was out of most peoples reach. Using the income from the Japanese ...
...This is about the Dyson DC01. I warn that this is information I have gathered, as I know nothing of the history of the Dyson, so no jumping up and down yelling Plagiarist! Please. (Not yet anyway) THE IDEA
In 1979, James Dyson noticed how the air filter in the ball barrow (another invention of his) spray-finishing room was constantly clogging with powder particles (just like a vacuum cleaner bag clogs with dust). So he designed and built an industrial ... ...in a vacuum cleaner?
I have a liver & white Springer Spaniel so buying a powerful cleaner was essential. Even my old DC01 (6 yrs old) was having trouble picking up, although I was really pleased with it when it was new.
I was a little concerned that the Animal was too expensive but now I'm glad I paid the extra (replacing carpets would have cost more!). It can be a little heavy if you have to get it up and down stairs but if you're quite mobile you shouldn't have any problems. It's really easy to manouvere and the onboard tools, especially the turbo tool are excellent. The brush bars are good if you have mixed wood & carpeted flooring but it can be a pain bending down to adjust them all the time.
Update....
Having used the machine now for about a month I can now say that bizarrely the machines performance imporves the longer it is switched on ...
Advantages: Powerful, doesn't lose suction and a wide range of optional extras Disadvantages: I can't get on with the angled crevice tool
I started out with the original DysonDC01 but I was always convinced mine wasn't as powerful as my mums and didn't remove dog hair very well. After buying a new carpet I bought the DC14 Allergy at a special offer price a couple of weeks ago and I wouldn't be without it now. It almost takes the carpet up with it!! And it loves dog hair. It really does make vaccuuming easy. When using the pipe, it almost takes off but I guess you need to actually be holding it to believe it. The only thing I can't get on with is the angled crevice tool. I much preferred the straight one on my original Dyson. You can also buy a mini turbine head to attatch to the pipe (which I will invest in) which makes cleaning stairs even easier. The pipe is long enough to reach to the top of the stairs in one go. All in all, a fantastic cleaner. ...
Advantages: great suction, good additional tools, great reach on the hose Disadvantages: heavy, no storage points for the extra tools
After owning two much earlier dyson models (DC01 and DC02 absolute) I have to admit I am already a fan of dysons, but although they are still going strong they were unable to cope with the arrival of four houserabbits plus the fur they shed. As I was in Comets anyway for something else I noticed a stand with the new DC14 Vroom on it and decided to check out the specifications on it. The lifetime filter was one of the first thing that got my attention, my old machines needed them replacing regularly so this was an improvement. The next thing I noticed was the car tools, specifically the power bar head which is brilliant at getting bits out of car carpets, ordinary suction with upholstery heads never seems to get it properly. All the features pointed to a machine that was a significant improvement on my own original dyson models so I paid ...
