Advantages: powerful, light Disadvantages: filter needs cleaning every few months
I was always a bit sceptical about the claims about Dyson's, until I used my mum's. I'm now a convert.
I bought this one as it fitted under the stairs. Although its bright yellow colour almost made me think twice. Powerful and with no bags to change it make the job a lot easier. The fact I had to empty the dust container three times the first time I used it to hover my house (now I only need to empty it once every other time) shows what my old vacuum had left behind. The small tools are also good but they are best kept in a draw rather than attached to the vacuum so they don't get in the way.
The dust container is quite small so anyone with a large house or with pets that shed hair everywhere this may not be the best Dyson to go for. It is quite noisy but I can only assume that this is due to the power of the motor. There is ...

Advantages: Great suction, funky looks, filters...the list is endless! Disadvantages: Bagless, so despite all the filters, you have to face a lot of dust when emptying it.
, you can easily see it and remove it. A real downer though is having to empty the cylinder......this is when having the allergy filter makes not the slightest difference and dust escapes uncontrollably, so beware if allergy is a problem for you...
I use the dyson to vacuum my mattress and although I used to have to do it every week or I would be sneezing my way through the mornings, I can now get away with once a fortnight or even less often :)
The turbo brush seems amazing, but definitely the kind of thing you'd keep away from kids' fingers.
The hose doesn't look as sturdy as I'd like, and I'm hoping all the little clips around the connectors aren't too easy to break.
One neat idea is a telescopic wand (not the fairy godmother variety sadly, I'd far rather get housework done that way!)
The first time I used the DC05 I ...

Advantages: No bags to buy, good suction Disadvantages: Expensive, poor quality for price, noisy
Suction is good, and there are no bags to buy. Customer service good, spare parts posted within 2 days. But if parts were more robust, I wouldn't need to keep phoning to request spare parts in the first place. Dust collection bin is small, so have to empty it frequently. Dyson suggest the filter is washed every 6 months - more like every 3 months. Cheap poor quality plastic - expected much better quality considering the price. Doesn't sit on stairs; it falls down, then the hose comes out and has to be pushed back in. Cord rewind not very powerful - end up poking the end of the cord back in as it won't rewind fully. Spare parts ridiculously expensive. Wouldn't buy another one, that's for sure. ...
