A few months before we moved to our huge new house, I managed to persuade my Partner that the cheap vacuum cleaner he was using was a false economy. To be honest the one he had did not so much act as a vacuum cleaner it was more a noisy broom. The carpets were scrubbed with the vacuum to get them clean. To see his face once we got the DC05 was a picture, gone are the days of back breaking effort, now it seemed a pleasure, if house work can be described as a pleasure to clean the floors.
The cleaner itself, well ours is a lovely purple and lime colour, but this was not really that important as when its not being used we do not keep it on display.
My partner pointed out that the hose, tools and the general construction on the Dyson were made more substantially than any previous vacuum he had owned.
The model we have has an airflow driven brushbar on one of its heads, this really does make the carpets come up
clean. It is available as an extra for around £30.
For such a strong cleaner it is surprisingly light, just as well really as our new house has loads of stairs.
So much has gone into the design of these machines, the handle is on an adjustable ratchet, so no matter your size it will feel comfortable.
It can be used on hard floors as well as carpets, this is just as well really as we still have plenty of house that needs to be carpeted.
One huge selling point for the Dyson is it does not have any bags that need changing instead you simply remove the body and empty the contents that it has collected. Yes it does seem true that you do not lose suction as it fills up.
Having been given a thorough work out in the last few months, we have noticed a couple of problems, one being the brushbar seems to jam and stick, the other being not so much a problem more an inconvenience. My other half decided to clean the whole house from top to bottom, when he got down to the bottom the Dyson stopped working. We changed the fuse but to no avail still it refused to work. After a few hours though we tried again and it worked, we have been told that it had been used for such an extended length of time that it had over heated and needed time to cool down. I guess he likes using it.
Apart from the above all in all I really rate this machine highly.
We paid about £260 for ours with the brushbar but you can get them for £220 without.
