I work form home running a driving school for which my husband is an instructor. I have 2 children 1 at school, 1 at home. I enjoy music, concerts, social events and traction kiting which i'm just getting into.

We were given the original DC01 nearly 9 years ago and were very happy with it in all ways until the hose broke a month ago. We were thinking of buying replacement parts and decided what the hell lets just buy a new one.
We have an asthmatic child so decided to go for the DC14 animal as we also have 2 cats. Managed to get a great deal at £211 with free P&P and it turned up 2 days later.
This hoover comes with the usual set of tools, Stair tool, brush tool and crevice tool. It also comes with a mini turbine head for removing pet hairs. The hoover comes mostly set up in a large box. You need to connect the hose and put the tools on but that is all very simple. Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be anywhere to store the mini turbine head. The user guide is a bit weak and is written about the standard model only. It doesn't tell you how to use the mini turbine head and there are buttons on this that we can't figure out.
Okay, so I got it all set up and was ready to try it out. I decided to start in the sitting room where we have wooden floors and a large rug. This hoover has brush control so should have no problem swopping between the two surfaces. First impression was, WOW huge suction! It actually lifted the rug off the floor and it is a very large rug. The amount of dirt appearing in the clear bin was startling. And it was very apparent that dyson have come a long way since the first DC01.
I used the mini turbine head on the hose to clean the furniture and curtains, which was quick and easy and by the time I was finished there was no sign we had a cat at all.
The Telescopic hose is very useful when it comes to cleaning the stairs and it makes it much less of a stretch. The extra length also makes it a lot easier to hoover up cobwebs from the ceiling.
I haven't had this long enough yet to have to clean out the filter, apparently that needs to be done every 5/6 months but it looks simple enough to do and certainly easier than having to buy replacements for my old dyson.
The results I've had so far from this hoover have been great. It's really made me realise how old my last had gotten. I would certainly recommend this to other people. Particulary if you've got pets as the mini turbine head really makes a huge difference. Also, the bin can be emptied without having to come into contact with the dust at all which is a huge improvement and is good for asthmatics/ allergy sufferers.
I think if you're paying full price (SSP is £299) it is too expensive. At £60 more than the standard DC14 I don't think you get enough extras to justify the difference.
So now my house feels refreshingly animal hair free I guess I'll just need to do the cats too!
