The title is meant in two ways: it's a vaccum cleaner, of course it sucks! In fact, it sucks very well, the carpets and linoleum are clean, so all is well there. Good suction, and the bagless business is good, as it's always confusing trying to find the right kind of bags for other vacuums. Powerful little thing. The downside being that if you get to the dustbin release button while the vacuum is on, it doesn't shut off or anything, it keeps going. That doesn't feel incredibly safe to me?
Is it just me, or does it do carpets better than non-carpeted floors? Seems that it picks up things better on the carpets. Feels like you have to chase some bits over the kitchen floor before it'll suck it up.
We got the DC14 Animal becuase of our pets. Sure thing, it cleans up animal hairs fine!
The downside is that I think it's a bit too heavy. Maybe it's because I've never used an upright vacuum before, as I've grown up using the other kind. The good thing with an upright being I get less of a back ache when cleaning the house. The downside of it is that it's more difficult to get underneath low tables and things like that. Trying to do the stairs is a nightmare!
Yes, you can detach the handle and there's a telescope tube with some extensions, but I think Dyson never intended for anyone to actually use those functions. Why else would it be so difficult to use? The tube (?) thing doesn't want to extend or be flexible, so you have to hold it at the same time as you use the other hand to clean, with one foot holding the machine back, as you don't want it falling down the stairs, if that's where you're hoovering.
The add-on with the rotating brush feels like it's angled slightly wrong, because again, you can't do the stairs with it. Using any of the add-ons make me go put on a pair of really old (and well-isolated!) headphones as well, because I find the noise level too high.
It's a very good vacuum cleaner, but it's so much HASSLE if you actually want to vacuum properly. The reason we got this particular one was becuase of the animal factor. If not for that, I would've insisted on one that wasn't upright and save myself a lot of hassle! Oh yeah, and don't believe for a second that animals like it just because of the name... It's still a vacuum. They still hate it! ;)
