A lifesaver for pet owners

I love my cat to death but no matter how many times a day i brush him i still leave my flat covered in ginger hairs. My previous hoover was a little Henry which I loved but it unfortunately just wasn't up to the industrial strength cleaning that it takes to get my flat clean so when it finally gave up the ghost I decided I would invest in a more expensive vaccum that was specifically designed for pet owners.
My mum has always had Dysons but I had always begrudged paying that price for a hoover but this time I thought I would just bite the bullet and invest in one.
After quite a bit of searching I decided on the Dyson animal DC25 which supposedly had the great suction of a normal Dyson but it also had a motorized brush bar designed specifically for pet hair. At just under 300 pounds it wasn't exactly a bargain so I expected great things from it.

I was surprised to realize there was some assembly to be done with the hoover, now I have no idea why I was so shocked at this but I just assumed that it would come ready to use out the box. The assembly was a breeze though so this wasn't a problem. When I had it assembled it looked roughly the same shape as a normal upright hoover but with the roller ball and the see through middle it's much more modern looking and quite impressive really.

This Dyson has a roller ball on the bottom which I loved. I'm not sure if this is a feature on all Dysons as my mum's one is an older model but I think it is great. It makes maneuvering the vaccum 100x easier than a normal vaccum and it's so easy to turn it and go round corners.
It is advertised as light weight but I don't know where they got this from as I found it to be a lot heavier than I imagined it would be and in fact heavier than a lot of other upright hoovers I have used in the past. I'm young and relatively fit so I didn't find this a problem but if someone is thinking of buying it specifically as they advertise it as lightweight then they need to be aware of the fact that it's not particularly light and takes quite a bit of pushing and pulling to use.

The first time I used it I was disgusted to see the amount of dirt, dust and hair that filled the cylinder but I took a perverse pleasure in seeing how much dirt I could get from the carpets in one go. I was shocked to see that I had filled the cylinder as I had borrowed my neighbours vaccum a few days earlier so I felt like I was really dirty but when I emptied it I realized it wasn't as bad as I first thought as it doesn't really hold all that much.
The Dyson was great at picking things up and I don't think my carpets had been that clean since they were new but I was most interested in seeing how the pet hair attachment would work on my sofas since this was the main reason I plumped for the Dyson over other models.
There is an attachment that goes on the Dyson hose for furniture and hard to reach places and I'm pleased to report that it got my sofa hair free for the first time since I got my cat. Unfortunately it didn't last long but if I do it every day and don't let it accumulate it only takes a couple of minutes.

The suction really is impressive with the Dyson and I have no complaints with it and in fact I have found it to be brilliant but it is very expensive for a hoover so it depends on if you need something more powerful than a cheaper vaccum can give on whether you should get it or not. For me it has been great but if you don't have a problem with pet hair everywhere then I'm not sure it can justify its price tag. If you do decide to invest in the Dyson DC25 animal then I'm sure you won't be disappointed with it.
