Married with two young children, both at primary school. Work full time as a tutor. Hectic lifestyle with very little time for me, I really should do something about this.

I purchased my Dyson DC07 Animal about four years ago, it was purchased to replace an original DC01 which I was really pleased with, so pleased that when I damaged the machine (I fell down the stairs with it) I replaced it with the DC07. My DC07 cost approximately £350.
Initially, I was just as pleased with the DC07, it did everything it said it would. However, after only a few months things started to go wrong:
Split tubes (both stretchy tubes on the machine failed) Cyclone unit had to be replaced Filter housing had to be replaced
The customer service team were first class. Each time I phoned them they talked me through the problems, which in most cases resulted in them despatching a new part. However, the machine still continued to "play up", it was never brilliant, there was always something wrong with it. At one point I was told that the cyclone had been upgraded and I probably had an old style one, so this was replaced. The saga continued and despite my pleas from very early ownership Dyson would not replace the machine.
The warranty eventually ran out but the problems stayed. The motor was replaced early last year, free of charge (as a gesture of good will), but alas after only six months there are more issues - it just won't pick up. I've removed and cleaned all the removable and cleanable parts but still no joy. The machine is now being sold and I have purchased another brand of vacuum cleaner.
I have no doubt that Dyson are regarded as one of the best in the vacuum world - I believed this for a long time, I have owned one Dyson or another for about 10 years, but I was so reluctant to buy another one which just may have been made on a "Friday afternoon".
Would I recommend Dyson? - Yes I would - but I would also speak of my experiences.
Would I buy another Dyson? Maybe, in a few years time.
To sum up, I really would expect at vacuum costing in excess of £300 to last more than four years!

Very good review, I've had the same problems with my Dyson & have recently chucked it. I suppose this is what we should expect when manufacture is shifted from Swindon to China. I say never again !!!

Oh what a surprise yet another failed Dyson.. Thank the stars we've got a Sebo upright which has lasted 11+ years.

I've read Which? magazine, who say that although they are good vacuum cleaners, they cannot rate them as best buys because of their breakdowns. At that price, I'd expect a lot more too! :)
