'Upright cleaners are best suited to carpets and cylinder cleaners are better for hard floors'. Yes, good advice, but I have hard floors, carpets and rugs, and was getting sick of storing two vacuum cleaners. I just don't have the space. I struggled for ages, using my old upright Dyson to do my carpeted rooms, then using my little cylinder cleaner to clean the laminate floors in my other rooms, and it was becoming madness. So, after doing a bit of research, I found this model...
Ok, so the rotating brush on the upright cleaner is what makes them so efficient at picking up the dust from carpets, but it is this rotating brush which makes the upright unsuitable for hard floors. If the brush picks up any grit, then it will scratch your hard floors as it rotates. Nightmare! This is where the Dyson DC08 comes in. It has the turbo brush, which makes it excellent on carpets, and also an interchangeable hard floor attachment, which amazingly adjusts with the level of your floor so as not to lose suction (you'd have to see the way this works to understand what I mean). Even if you're tipping the tube backwards to reach under your settee, the hard floor attachment won't tip backwards - it will maintain contact with the floor at all times. Clever, eh?
Right, so it was the fact that it was going to save on storing two different vacuums which sold this product to me. However, alongside this...you also have the Dyson name which is very reassuring. It's a powerful little machine too. I have a cat, and have no bother at all in picking up all those cat hairs off my carpets. In fact, despite having had a Dyson upright previously, I actually found my new cylinder Dyson even MORE effective on carpets that my old upright! There's also the money saving factor, as the Dyson is bagless, and has washable filters, so you no longer have that ongoing expense. The handle on this Dyson is easy to grip, and you are also able to adjust the suction through a trigger control on the handle...for when vacuuming your curtains with the tools, for example. It's also lightweight, and easy enough to carry around. Then, of course, you've got the cord rewind feature, which makes it quick and easy to tidy it away. It also is incredibly simple to extend or shorten the hose - much easier than my previous cylinder!
This vacuum also comes with a good range of strong and durable attachments, as you'd expect - and these clip onto the hose, to have them close at hand when you need them. However, I do find that the clip can slip down the hose at times - but it's easy enough to remove them and store them somewhere else if you really find this a problem.
While the fact that the Dyson is bagless is still a major selling feature (I believe the absence of a bag is supposed to maintain constant powerful suction, even when the container is more full, alongside being more cost efficient), I know that some people find the fact that you need to empty out the container rather annoying. I don't mind this personally, although, I would recommend that this is done outside, so as not to spread the dust in the area that you've just vacuumed! And while it's also quite reassuring to see how much dust your new Dyson has been picking up...it's not the most attractive thing to be looking at! But, I can live with that too, and if you clean it out regularly, it's really not all that bad.
While I think this vacuum currently retails in most highstreet shops at about £255, I actually found that easibuy.com was selling this for around £209.99 including free delivery, and this has been the cheapest price that I've found for this item yet.
I would recommend this model to anyone who has a combination of floor types, as it really is a vacuum to suit them all!
Advantages: nothing Disadvantages: hose too short and complete lack of suction
I've aways had Dyson upright cleaners and found them very heavy. So I thought for a change I would buy a cylinder cleaner and with owning two dogs and being owned by three cats I thought this cylinder cleaner would be the perfect answer. However I now wished i'd never bothered.
'''A bit about the inventor and Dyson Company'''
James Dyson first invention was a Sea Truck whilst he was studing at the Royal College of Art. A few years later came the ... ...100,000 times those of gravity. Dyson then realised that the same system could be used for a vacuum cleaner, 5 years and 5,127 prototypes later the worlds first bagless vacuum cleaner was produced. The first vacuums were sold in Japan for $2000 each and was originally called the G Force. In 1993 James Dyson opened his research centre and factory in Wiltshire and produced a machine that collected finer dust particles. The DC01, was the first vacuum ...

...about the pickup of the dyson vacuum cleaners, but believe me it is gob smacking when you see some much dirt coming out of a reacently vacuumed carpet! you really have to try it yourself to actually believe it!
The machine on the whole we are very pleased with, the small attachment tools have air inlet holes in them so while vacuuming curtains, its not a fight to to remove the curtain from the end of the attachment tool.
The machine and attachments ... ...of the bin. It is a mucky job especially when you brush the shroud on the cyclone assembly. The machine does what it is advertised, and does give you constant suction.
If you dont have a dyson the i strongly recommend you go out and but one! ...

Advantages: Powerful, easy to use, easy to store Disadvantages: None...
...about household appliances... but... the Dyson Animal sledge cleaner is a gem. It is easily stored (useful in an apartment), and simply beautifully effective.
Vacuuming isn't the world's most exciting task... but when the carpet becomes visibly lighter, brighter then the task is considerably more rewarding.
The Dyson is not too heavy (a criticism of some of the other models), has a good selection of tools, with a sensible selection of nozzles to ... ...well made, solid and functional, and it looks pretty too! The dust collection bin has a good volume, and is easy to empty. Very powerful, it deals easily with the usual dust & dirt, as well as being the most effective on pet hairs that I have found.
All round, this cleaner is simply an excellent product. ...

Advantages: The sheer amount of durt and dust this thing picks up... Disadvantages: Can't think of any apart from emptying it more.
I bought the DysonDC08Animal hoover about 3 weeks ago, just after moving into a new, but very dirty house. I was totally amazed at the amount of dirt and dust this thing picked up! I did two of my rooms and then had to empty it. To be truthful, I did find this quite hard to do, as the button was a little stiff, but I just put this down to it being a new machine, (it works fine now, 3 weeks on)
I was also very impressed at all of the attachment that comes with it, one of which can be used on carpets or tiled type floors, this is the Contact Head. All you have to do is press down a little button on the actual head of the hoover and that?s it.
This hoover is especially made for people who have pets in their homes. It is designed with a lifetime hospital level HEPA filter with a bacteria screen. It has a mini turbo brush ...

Advantages: Great suction - fairly lightweight - easy to move around - good customer support Disadvantages: None
Patented cyclone technology - you just can't beat it - or so Dyson say and I have to agree. When I moved into my new place the one thing I had completely forgotten about was a vacuum cleaner and this lead to much rushing around when I realised that my cough and wheezing was down to the amount of animal hair left by the previous owners. Not being well off enough to pay for new carpets I decided that I had to go forth and buy a Dyson - after all everyone I had spoken to raved about them.
I paid £223 for my DC08 from www.vacs4u.com and the picture above shows it off - it's small, compact and sits nicely in the storage space by the front door - something an upright cleaner wouldn't do.
The DC08 like all Dyson's doesn't use vacuum cleaner bags; instead the entire collection barrel is removed and emptied directly into the bin. The DC08 ...

Advantages: One of the best in the market, whether you have pets or not. Disadvantages: Two tools are not carried on the machine.
's precdesecor, the dysonDC08T Animal, features the Root12technology, but still the technology does the same things but in a smaller space.
The turbine head is impressive. I don't know why you'd need the motor head boasted by the DC21 since the turbine head is really good and makes the most of the electricity you're using to power the suction motor rather than consuming more electricity by powering a seperate motor just for the brush bar.
Despite the weight quoted being higher than that of the DC08T Animal, I actually think the DC20 Animal is lighter and more easier to use than my brothers dysonDC08T. I think the quoted weight may include accesories - and the DC20 has more accesories and the like than the previous DC20...so indeed the main cleaner of the DC20 may still be lighter.
I thought, with the Clearbin being on a slope, all debris ...
