"Dyson DC14 origin - amazes me every time."

I bought my DC14 origin from Argos in 2010, I cannot remember the exact price but believe it was around £180, I bought it to replace an electrolux bagless cleaner which died a fiery death after trying to clean the whole house in one go with it.

First Use
When I got my Dyson home I unpacked the stealthy black box to find a well packed cleaner and all I needed to do was attach the handle and the tools to the main body of the cleaner, then I got started by cleaning the living room - I half filled the dust container with hair and powder like dust from the shaggy rug in the living room, I then attached the hard floor tool (bought seperately) to the wand and started cleaning the laminate flooring in the living room (this variant of the DC14 is not suitable for hard floors due to the brushbar not being able to be turned off and possible scratching) and the suction was amazing and there was no dusty, stale dog smell like from the electrolux.

Mattress Cleaning
Today I cleaned my matress with the DC14 and it pulled out so much powder and a big ball of dog hair, I don't know how as the dogs aren't allowed on the bed but still.. I have attached a photo of the Dyson bin after cleaning my mattress, quilt and pillows.

The tools that the DC14 comes with as standard depends on the variant you buy, mine came with a crevice tool, dusting brush and an upholstery/stair tool, all of these can be attached to the end of the 'quick release telescope wand' which pulls out of the handle for using the tools. I use the dusting brush and upholstery tool most often - the dusting brush on the end of the wand for door frames, curtain poles, cobwebs in corners etc and directly on the end of the hose to dust the laptop, computer keyboard, tv screen, window sills and clean the leather sofa etc and the upholstery toold on the end of the want to clean stairs, matresses, the fabric sofa and directly on the end of the hose for cleaning the car, dog beds and confined spaces like behind the tv. I hardly use the crevice tool but occasionally I go around the edges of rooms.
All 3 tools clip on to the cleaner - the crevice tool on the side and the dusting brush and upholstery tool on the cyclone assembly.

The Dyson comes with a 5 year guarantee as standard which you have to register for either by phone, online or post. The Dyson has 2 filters, one above the cyclone assembly, to acess this you pull the little blue catch that says filter on the clear handle and flip it open, there is a sponge filter in a plastic and fine mesh type holder - this filter does not seperate the dirt from the air like on imitaion cheaper cyclone cleaners, it is there to stop any fine dust missed by the cyclones getting in to the motor - Dyson reccomends this is washed every 6 months but I'd say more like every 3 months depending on how much you use it and how many people/pets are in your house. There is also another filter underneath the bin assembly which filters the air coming out of the cleaner, this is acessed by popping open 3 catches with a flat headed screwdriver and Dyson say this should never need replaced but eventually it will turn black and block the air that comes out of the motor so after 2-3 years this will need replaced. Also the bin needs emptied after 2-3 uses and you can tell when as it is clear and there is a clearly visible max line, to empty the bin you detach the bin assembly from the cleaner and hold it over a bin (outside) and push the relase trigger which will then make the bottom flap open and the dirt will fall out, then I always tap it on the side of the bin to disloge any loose dirt from the cyclone assembly, then you close the flap and you're ready to vacuum again.

The Dyson performs brilliantly on carpets, stairs and hard floors (with the hard floor tool), it picks up pet hair and dust with ease and lifts the pile on thicker carpeting, on shorter pile carpeting it is effortless to vacuum but it can be slightly harder to push on a thicker carpet. Also it has a really long cable, I plug it in in a central place on each floor and can do every room, and my house isn't small so that's a big plus.
