I recently got married, and was bought a DC14 animal as a wedding present from my parents (luckily not from my new husband otherwise we might have been making a quick trip to the divorce courts!)
The silver and purple design makes it look quite appealing (as far as vacuum cleaners go!) and I couldn't wait to give it a try. My previous vacuum cleaner was also a Dyson, albeit a DC02 original from the days of the ark, but I thought it was still doing a pretty good job. I'd hoovered the house just 3 or 4 days previously, but after going round with the new animal I needed to empty the bin on it twice! It's amazing how much dirt it picks up.
What makes it special? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
As well as having the great cleaning power you'd expect from a Dyson, by far the best thing about this particular vacuum is the mini 'turbo tool', an attachment designed for removing pet hairs/fibres from upholstery and floors. I've got 2 long haired cats that like to roam everywhere in the house, and even after previous attempts at vacuuming sofas/chairs/beds using normal attachments, you could still see fur ingrained in the fabric - this tool is the first one I've used that does remove all traces of fur - hurrah!
Another advantage of the DC14 animal is that it has got the "British Allergy Foundation seal of approval" (the HEPA filtration removes allergens and dust mites from the air and the Bactisafe screen traps and kills bacteria and mould), which is great for any allergy sufferers or anyone with asthma.
The filters never need replacing and are really easy to get out to clean, and the extendable hose makes it easier to clean stairs.
As well as this, the vacuum can be used on any surfaces (I've got a mixture of carpet, vinyl and laminate and it's great on all of them).
It's really easy to empty as well, all you have to do is remove the cylinder from the vacuum, then pull a trigger to release the lid from the bottom of the cylinder, allowing the dirt to fall into the bin. (gone are the days of getting all dusty trying to replace hoover bags!)
It also comes with a 5 year guarantee (I haven't had any reason to use this yet), and is quite robust. Even after several months of knocking the vacuum into walls/skirting boards, the plastic coating has hardly been touched.
Any disadvantages? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It is quite a heavy vacuum so a bit hard to manoeuvre at times, but that's the only down side I've found. (oh, and not being able to blame any house hold dirt on the vacuum cleaner not doing it's job properly!)
Is it worth it's money? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Even though Dyson's are expensive to buy I think they are worth their money ( I had my previous one for at least 4 years with no problems) When it's time to replace my vacuum, I will definitely look for another Dyson again.
Which Dyson would be best for me? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
There's so many different models though, if you're unsure which one to go for or want more information, have a look at the Dyson website:
www.dyson.co.uk
It's a great site, and even helps you decide which dyson would be best for you - by asking a series of questions about what you want from a vacuum:
Cylinder or upright? Type of flooring? Lightweight or powerful? Do you have pets? Allergies?
When you've answered these it shows you the best 3 or 4 vacuums that fit your criteria and compares their features and prices - Although buying direct from the website usually works out more expensive, eg this vacuum is £299.99 on the website compared to £284.95 from Argos ;-)
Happy vacuuming!

I love my dyson! I have the dc08 I think - must write a review on it one of these days as it's the best hoover I've ever had in my life! Great review, will look forward to more like this from you! Kate x

Gone are the days of replacing dusty bags? Sorry but I cant seem to think that emptying a bagless Dyson is a clean experience. Whilst I loved Dysons in general the emptying really put me off, made all the worse by emptying outside and the dust flies back up in your face. Generally a good review here though and good luck with it. To make this review more helpful Id add more details about the drive belt - is there one? What about the noise and is there any heat off the machine thanks to the high motor? Nothing worse than pushing it around and you get a roasting on your legs. Also is it easy to put under low furniture? If you update let me know.
