I purchased mine from Dyson's web shop; I bought my main vacuum cleaner from there too. I find their prices are mainly very competitive and you usually get some kind of freebie with your purchase. With this hand held the incentive was a free dusting brush and an extendable hose. This offer is good until the end of the month so you had best be quick if you are interested. I paid £99 which includes delivery and the free accessories are worth £22. Dyson dispatch their orders via Amtrak delivery and claim the delivery is aimed at being within 3 days; mine was delivered within 2.

Dyson DC 16 Handheld Root 6 ťťťťťťťťťťťťť
This machine is in Dyson’s yellow and grey livery; personally I was glad when they moved away from that unattractive purple. It has the usual transparent cylinder bin to repulse you with the filth it sucks up and personally encourages me to vacuum more frequently! As I said it is styled rather like a drill so you consequently get a very good grip and it is easily manoeuvrable so you can get into nooks and crannies very easily; the free hose increases this even further; I was able to get right under the car seats without crippling myself- I have a knee injury at present so am not as flexible as usual but the Dyson compensated for this very nicely.
The machine is light; weighing only 1.5 kg and this weight is distributed ergonomically so it is superbly balanced in the hand. Despite this the Root 6 is well made and tough. It doesn’t feel flimsy or cheap.
The accessories for this will also fit your main Dyson machine and all the accessories for the main machine will work with this except the powered heads. This is handy as you don’t have to duplicate accessories you already have. The accessories include Crevice tool; useful for narrow spaces and behind things Stubborn dirt brush: with stiff bristles to remove dried on dirt like mud Wide nozzle tool- for upholstery or larger spills such as talc Soft dusting brush; easy to get into narrow gaps, soft bristles wont damage anything Combination tool; soft bristles plus a wide tube entry for debris such as sweets and dried dog food spills!
Dyson also sell all the parts of its machines as accessories so, for example, if you crack the transparent container you can just replace that one part. If the motor burns out you could just buy that component rather than the whole machine. You can also buy an extra battery and filters. Dyson’s filters last a lifetime so you don’t actually need an extra set but when you wash the filters you can use them again until they are dry and its Murphy’s Law that when you wash them you’ll need to vacuum something up.
Using the DC 16 ≈•≈•≈•≈•≈•≈•≈•≈
Dyson always include very comprehensive manuals that include diagram’s which illustrate very well the points in the text- enough that some one whose reading abilities weren’t good would still be able to understand how to use the machine although the instructions do come in several languages to make comprehension more likely. The tools attach to the Dyson very easily. When using the crevice tool you slide it into the inlet pipe on the cyclone assembly until it 'clicks' into position. The combination tool is also easy. The brush must be positioned at the back of the combination tool to use the crevice function. To use the brush function you simply press the button on the brush section. Slide the brush section towards the front of the combination tool. If you want to use tools off your main Dyson there is an included accessory adaptor which is compatible with all Dyson tools. This has a button for quick release and tool s just push into it like they do on my Animal. The powered heads will fit but the power obviously isn’t supplied to them. The root 6 has a power button to turn it on or off. once it’s running you just press it gently against the area to be cleaned. It has an LED light display which indicates its charge status. 2 green and its fully charged, 1 green and it’s used about half, red and it needs recharging; it stops working quite quickly after the red light comes on. You get about 6 minutes of use from a full charge which doesn’t sound a lot but as its designed for vacuuming small areas for spills or messes it is actually enough usually. If you change heads during cleaning you should turn it off to preserve the charge obviously. The Dyson takes around 3 hours to recharge fully, once in its recharging cradle and connected properly the red light will go out and the green lights will come on to indicate its charging status, both green and its fully charged. If all three lights display at the same time it indicates something wrong for example the filter hasn’t been replaced after washing it. Emptying the Dyson is easy it has a button to press when you hold it over the bin and the dirt tumbles out, the cylinder only needs wiping round with a damp cloth.

Dyson recommends washing filters every 3-6 months depending on level of usage and type of dirt. These just need rinsing in warm water until the dust is all removed. There are 2 filters and the take several hours to dry so I had an extra set. Dyson recommends the unit is stored in its recharging cradle until required which ensures it is always fully charged. Dyson will service machines for you if you require. Their helpline is also excellent and worth ringing if you have any problems.
My experience of using the Dyson DC 16 Handheld Root 6 ≈•≈•≈•≈•≈•≈•≈•≈•≈•≈•≈•≈•≈•≈•≈•≈•≈•≈•≈•≈•≈
I have been very impressed. It is light and comfortable to hold. As it is so well balanced it doesn’t feel heavy or awkward at all. It sucks very powerfully , Dyson claim this is twice the suction of its competitors and I cant prove or disprove that claim but it is a lot more powerful than my Vax scrubber; this is an unfair comparison though as the Vax isn’t essentially a hand held vacuum but a spot stain cleaner which also vacuums. It is able to suck up large particles such as kibbles of dry dog food without a problem (they look cool swirling around in the cyclone)
6 minutes is enough for most jobs around the house and anything larger would be worth getting the main cleaner out anyway. I do wish there was an option of using mains power though; mainly for in the car. The 6 minutes is ample for cleaning up spills and such but this cleaner is such a convenient shape and so maneuverable that it would be great to use for an all over car interior cleaning session but with only 6 minute burst and a 3 hour charging session it is less convenient.
I would definitely recommend this Dyson DC 16 Handheld Root 6 though, admittedly it is expensive but considering the excellent experiences I have had with Dyson in the past I am pretty sure I will have a similar experience with this.
Dyson supply their machines with a standard two year guarantee and the Dyson DC 16 Handheld Root 6 is no different.
Advantages: Powerful, Portable, Looks like a space-gun Disadvantages: Price,. Noise
...would be unfair. No, the Dyson Root 6 should truly be called a handheld vacuum cleaner.
"Why?" I hear you ask... well let me tell you.
Dyson, as anyone that hasn't been living under a rock for the last 10 years will know, shot to fame with their revolutionary "bagless" Hoover(tm). Only you can't call it a Hoover(tm) because that's a trademark too. Bagless technology meant that there was no loss of power as the poor vacuum motor had to suck air ... ...a fair few years before Dyson made the leap from "regular" vacuum cleaners to handheld ones. In fact, they only came on the market last year. I can only guess that it took them this long to perfect the design - or think up the marketing that would allow them to maintain their premium price-tag. Regardless of the cause of this delay, Dyson finally got a handheld to market in the form of the DC16 Root 6 in "Steel & Yellow". Looking more like a hand-gun ...

Advantages: Best Suction in Category. Narrow head allows better access in car Disadvantages: Marmite styling (love it or hate it!)
...he'd use the Dyson DC16 Root 6.
For a 38 year old man it takes a certain kind of day to find yourself reviewing a hand held vacuum cleaner. To be precise...a Friday, if you know what I mean!
Dyson techno-babble:
- Claims twice the power of other hand held vacuums. To be honest I wouldn't have invested nearly £90 if all it could manage was twice the power of my Black & Decker, which would struggle to pick up a cornflake if it was a particularly ... ...Really not sure what Mr Dyson was trying to impart with this statement, but "Flash" would probably need to change his trousers.
- Claims up to 3 times faster charge:
If you use a rechargeable vacuum cleaner the likelihood is its always on charge in its cradle making the above statement a mute point. What I consider more noteworthy is the voltage and type of battery. In this case 21.6 volts, which to anyone with power tools will understand, is huge. ...

...and trigger set-up, and well-known Dyson technology is everywhere in evidence. It's clearly intended to be useful as a car vac, and its here that it really shines - the long nozzle easily fits in almost any crevice, and the powerful suction does the rest. A single charge cleans my car every time - there isn't much left in the battery by the time I'm finished though, so maybe this is the only drawback? But it doesn't fall short of the competition ... ...very short battery life. The Dyson has a recharging stand into which it slides easily - less hassle than having to plug it in each time. The neon indicators on the side tell you clearly what state the battery is in. For those who haven't encountered Dyson's before, the bagless cyclone technology really is fantastic, and really does what it says on the tin - there really is no loss of suction! And because the dust container is clear, you know exactly ...

Advantages: lightweight, and storeable Disadvantages: Bad backs stay away
The dyson DC 16 Handheld Root 6!
Where to begin! Not actually being hoover qualified, this brand name dyson has become very popular. Dyson is a very good established brand name, known for its quality, and suction power.
This hand held device will get round any corners, pick up any dirt, especially good with the hairs off the carpet that never seem to come up. It's a minature version of you're everyday dyson with all the same qualities, except its ... ...- go back to the natural size dyson.
I have had my dyson for six months and am not disappointed.
Go ahead try it out! I see if you ever go back to you're nastily cheap home make brands that last little than 3 months.
Thank you! ...

Advantages: Rechargeable, great suction Disadvantages: None
This handheld dyson has a lot of suction much more than any other handheld vacuum i have owned in the past.
There are 3 lights on the side to tell you how much charge is left, 2 green and 1 red. When it goes red it turns off almost straight away.
It takes about 3 hours to charge, this give you about 6 minutes of use.
6 minutes does not sound much but do not forget this is only for small areas and not for replacing your full size vacuum.
The Dyson ... ...It is expensive about £80 but at least it works, so why pay £30 for a handheld that has no use.
This is great for cleaning the car, with the crevice tool.
The charger can be hung on a wall and the Dyson stored on it . ...
