Hi to all,
I work for a distribution business. My wife, Emma and I have two children, Miles(3) & Lauren(1). I enjoy driving, travelling and I love the sunshine! Cha Rocker, Steve
For a 38 year old man it takes a certain kind of day to find yourself reviewing a hand held vacuum cleaner. To be precise...a Friday, if you know what I mean!
Dyson techno-babble: - Claims twice the power of other hand held vacuums. To be honest I wouldn't have invested nearly £90 if all it could manage was twice the power of my Black & Decker, which would struggle to pick up a cornflake if it was a particularly hairy. I'm pleased to announce the Dyson exceeds my expectations and I ensure it points to the ground so as not to affect the moons orbit.
- Root Cyclone technology Pardon? Really not sure what Mr Dyson was trying to impart with this statement, but "Flash" would probably need to change his trousers.
- Claims up to 3 times faster charge: If you use a rechargeable vacuum cleaner the likelihood is its always on charge in its cradle making the above statement a mute point. What I consider more noteworthy is the voltage and type of battery. In this case 21.6 volts, which to anyone with power tools will understand, is huge. This leviathon of power houses should be capable of running not only your vacuum but every appliance you have on Christmas Day. As to the battery...its a lithium ion. This basically means no poor memory effect so you can re-charge it again and again for much longer than Metal Hydride battery technology. It also much lighter which is a good thing because to produce 21.6 volts a metal hydride battery would have been the weight of say... Pluto. The actual weight is 1.5 kilos, and its balanced like a ballerina.
-Claims Hygienic one touch emptying, no need to touch the dirt: Not on mine it doesn't. I've tried the switch. I've tried the switch with mind control. I've tried the switch with mind control and vigorous shaking. Nothing. For me the solution was two hands...oh the hardship! I can say however that I haven't had to do that pulling of the clotted hair to drag the grey lump of dead skin cells and lord only knows what out of the Black & Decker. A particularly unpleasent task made worse when vacuuming a damp spillage. If you've been there you'll understand! I've never been the same since.
Extras: - Comes with a 2 year guarantee - Has different coloured "LED" lights to tell you about the charge condition etc - No requirement for bags, filters or any other consumable item. If it gets dirty just give it a clean with mild soap and water.
Accessories, and what you get: - A combination accessory tool which includes a brush attachment
- A Dyson Adapter...which means any tools you have for other Dysons will fit. Thanks for not ripping us off Mr Dyson.
- A Crevice Tool. They say... "a tool for tight gaps and awkward spaces". How rude. Seriously though...if you're cleaning the back of a car, under the seats etc, the Black and Decker is the size of a bloated cow, the Dyson is a size zero straight off the Milan catwalk... in a really ugly dress.
Which brings me to...Style & Design. if you're the kind of person who likes 1950's Sci Fi and wearing a bright scarlet body stocking with a thunderbolt through it you're going to think all of your space chickens have come home to roost at once. Although I have christened it with a pet name (Gordon of course), I keep mine in a dark cupboard under the stairs with a sign on the door thats says "Warning - Danger of Death". Its the only Dyson product I'm ever likely to buy because its small enough to hide.
Recommended...Yes.
Why... because it genuinly works better than anything else.
The final word !
Time for Ming to get worried...GORDONS ALIVE.
