Having been a satisfied Dyson customer for many years, when my first one finally died, I quite naturally replaced it with another. A fan of the compact cylinder types, I did not initially consider an upright until it was demonstrated at a store. This thing is lightweight (6.5kg), extremely manoeverable, adapts to many different floor surfaces, and is very powerful. The dust cylinder detaches and empties very easily (needs to be as cylinder is small, about 1.7litres), and the filters are washeable. Gone are the endless purchasing of expensive filters as with my earlier
Dyson.
Having used it for 6 months now, I can still say I'm pleased with it except for a few niggles. Firstly, as with most uprights they can topple when using the telescopic section. This is no exception, but is more stable than it often feels. I think the articuation in the head makes it feel like it is going to topple when it isn't. Secondly, the telescopic section sometimes is difficult to put back into its position after use as the flexible hose catches on the plastic
upright tube. (Possible future rip there?!) Thirdly, there is no retractable cord. I realise that one a machine so compact that they were not able to include this, but shame they could not!
Overall, these minor points mean I can only classify it as good instead of excellent. However, i still would recommend this without any hesitation.
Prices vary between £280 in main electrical stores , down to about £203 online at 2007 prices.
